How to attach shoulderboards to shirts, tunics, and overcoats?

I have come to the conclusion that Trident Military is far too slow for me. They have not sent the payment invoice email for a month now, even after I reminded them to and they said they would do it the same night.

So, I'm going to spend a lot more by ordering some different uniforms on Gowen Militaria instead, but at least they have what in my opinion is 5-star service.

So, I will order a Luftstreitkraft non-career EM or NCO uniform, a plain collar EM/NCO overcoat to go with it, and maybe some other uniform as well.

Now my question is, how do shoulderboards attach to these pieces of clothing? Gowen sells shoulderboard buttons, but there are two types: Plain shoulderboard butttons for $2 a pair, and screw-in ones for $6 a pair. I really want to avoid spending a lot of money on the latter, but at least I have some faint idea as to how those work.

I would really appreciate it if someone told me what buttons to buy, and how to use it, so I can attach my shoulderboards to the shirt, tunic, or overcoat whenever I want. Thank you!

    my 2 cents

    Hey BoR,

If you are seriously interested in this stuff... fish around the board, I'm sure some member has the extra requisite Sboard strings and buttons to sell you.

They are easy to attach and all will become clear once you have the items in hand... no course necessary

Yes, I do. My cousin ordered the Luftstreitkrafte non-career NCO uniform for me a few minutes ago before he left, but I didn't get the overcoat and I got a Kasernierte Volkspolizei Gesellschaft jacket, Vopo green piped pants, and the VoPo green tie instead, and a silver officer's capcord to replace the incorrect green one on my VoPo officer's hat. I also got three pairs of shoulderboard buttons and drawstrings. I will just get the plain collar overcoat on my birthday.

Sounds like you're all organized, then.

            Nice birthday present, as well.

Screw in ones are Police and stringy ones are army (and others). Do not get the screw in ones for an army uniform. I will be listing a lot of genuine, used (not put together) uniforms on my next website update in August (after my holidays). They will all come complete with their shoulder boards attached. I do send out 24 hours notice emails to people on my mailshot list for when I am about to do an update with new items on the website. Do let me know if you want to be included in that mailing list. Cheers and good luck. Torsten.

But maybe it was allowed to use the Srew base ones as I had some Uniforms, mostly Field Grade Officers with Screw on Buttons in the Past and they came directly from the Owners and not from Fleamarkets. I don't believe there was a strict regulation on this.

I got the stringy ones for my Kasernierte Volkspolizei Gesellschaft jacket as it said that the stringy ones could also be used for police...By the way, Torsten, could you please give me a link to your website? I am very interested in checking it out.

There was no regulation on it, but the army only ever issued the strings (as far as I know) and the police issued the screwed buttons ... I am sure that there will have been cross overs of people using eachothers for whatever reason .. but I do think that if you want to be strictly accurate then you should not mix the two ... unless they came like that from a reliable source. Cheers, Torsten.

Ok, the guy at Gowen told me to call back a little later a few hours back so he could tell me if he had some NVA EM visor caps in size 59 and some other stuff...but then I will ask him to replace one of the drawstring and shoulderboard button packages with the screw-in type...Thanks for letting me know!
