Hans Beimler Oberschule - Big grouping from a DDR school

Here I want to show a big grouping that I have from a DDR school .
It's from the POS ( Polytechnische Oberschule ) '' Hans Beimler '' in Hohen Wangelin ( near Rostock ) .
The school was taken down at the end of 2009 .
The grouping contains more than 1000 photos from the students and teachers , incl. Jungpionieren taken the outh , sports , Fahnenehre and all kind of ceremonies .
There are also 5 so called Brigadebücher from the school and a Ehrenbuch who was given to the school when it got this name .
On the right of the central staircase was a big stone with a bronze sign with the portrait of Hans Beimler in relief , incl. the dates when he was born and when he died ( also in my hands )
Hans Beimler was a German communist who escaped from the concentration camp Dachau in 1933 ( by killing his SA Guard ) and afterwards he went to Spain to join the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War , he was killed during the Battle of Madrid in 1936 .
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Beimler_(Communist)
Hans Beimler was a national hero in the DDR .

The school just before it was taken down at the end of 2009

The school in better days , with the FDJ flag in top and a Musikzug on the stairs .

    The Brigadebücher

The Ehrenbuch for the school when it got the Honour Name '' Hans Beimler ''

Some photos from the inside of the Ehrenbuch

Gefeliciteerd Johan! A very nice and interesting document that displays the all day life. It has got a large historical value!! Not just because I work in a school too! It's good these items end up with a collector like you to preserve it for the future.

                  Hoi Felix

The guy I bought the sign from is an old student of the school , he took the bronze sign some years ago .
The other stuff ( photos / books ) came from the Burgemeister ( the mayor ) .
Lucky for me this material was saved , the other things , like the flags , posters and wall material was destroyed

                  Regards , Johan

The real fate of Hans Beimler would be an interesting topic for a research in the soviet archives - one supposes he was killed by the soviet GPU.

Why do they tear down this former Hans Beimler school in 2009 near Rostock? Wow!!! Modern Germans are tearing down old DDR buildings like this school building more often along with many former TR buildings. I once heard that in Halle the three hands statue which was erected in 1968 was taken down in 1990s as modern Germans are increasingly tearing down more DDR buildings. You are lucky to get this bronze Hans Beimler plaque from that old school along the school photos and documents. Yeah I do remembers the former Republik Palast building was torn down in Berlin few years ago. This building was now gone from Berlin.

Johan - You have an interesting part of history related to the youth and the school system. Along with a snap shot (photographs) of history at the school...nice catch.
Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did. Quote - Sophie Scholl - White Rose resistance group

Problem is that there are no more children that could visit these schools. Today's german politicians don't see germany's future in german children.

The current german policy has failed miserably when it comes to creating child-friendly environments.

They love to be indignant about the fact that the nazis burned books....they demolish schools, but, unlike burning books, that seems to be ok.

                          Very nice grouping!

                            Thanks , Ralph

The Mayor told me that the school was taken down , because there where not so many students anymore in that town .
It's sad that another piece of DDR History is gone .
The mayor has got some more photos etc. but they are going to keep that for the archives , I will get photo copies , he promised me .

                              Hi James

It looks like they want to wipe the entire history of the DDR , all that remains of it .
I visited the DDR a few times , I liked the Palast der Republik a lot , it was a nice , modern building .
They say It had to be taken down because of Asbestos , that's BS , the reason was that it was the symbol of the DDR !
There's no much left of the DDR , like it never existed.........
We collectors are the keepers of the DDR history .

                              Regards , Johan
