    Lyra

Need some opinions on this item. It does not have very good detail on it but might be late production. Need some opions on this original or not?

Basically it looks OK, it seems to be one of the later poorly made ones with the really ugly eagle heads. The DTSB top is of the later pattern, looks to be the same size as a flag top but with the screw fitting. Downside it is missing the handle and plumes.
    Ask for better pictures!!!

      Hello Greenedudley

I don't like this lyra , it could be a late production , but I have never seen
a photo of this type of lyra in use in the DDR .
The DTSB top is correct , it's not a fahnenspitze , bacause this one has a screw
      fitting . see photos .

A DTSB lyra top ( on the left ) and a DTSB fahnenspitze

Here is another DDR lyra , I think it's from the collection of
          Michael Gallagher

Here is the very nice lyra that was on the Italian auction last year ,
sadly the price was not realistic ( I think it's still for sale )

How hard is it to find parts for these, like the plumes?

The plumes are not so hard to find , sometimes you can find them on ebay
for plm. 30-50 euros , if I see them , I will tell you in a PM .
You can use the red / yellow / gold , or the red / white .
The wooden pole is not so easy to find , but that's nothing special , so you can use another pole .

Here are two photos taken from the book '' Nationales Jugendfestival Der DDR 1979 ''

Great lyra thread. Who'd have thought we could even do one! Personally, i'd pass on the one offered and hold out for a more promising example.

                      Hi Dudley

Today I received some original photos from the Spielmannszug from the
Polytechnische Oberschule ( POS ) '' Hans Beimler '' in Hohen Wangeliner
Where your Lyra is clearly shown .
First I had my doubts about this Lyra , but I was very wrong
I had never seen a photo of this Lyra in use , that's why I got this opinion .
Your Lyra is an 100% original DDR Lyra , and I think very rare , congratulations.

Here is a photo of the Lyra with the DTSB Top on the stairs of the Oberschule

The same Lyra , with an FDJ Top

Learned something new too. Never thought that one was original - looked "put-together" to me!!

Awesome photos. Thanks for posting these. My wife told me that the red and white horse tails arrived that I ordered from the states. When I get back home in March I should have it all put together in its full glory.

                              Hi Dudley

I hope you will put photos on the forum when it's complete again .
Here is another detail of one of the photos , the strange thing is , that they
don't have the tails on the Lyra on this photo .
