    Sword ???

    Does anyone have any idea when this sword was manufactured and what was it's use? I had it for years & there is no scabbard with it. Here are some pics. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, DEL

                I second that. First, why would the DDR put "made in Germany" on there
                items. Second its not like any of the officers sabers I have seen so it's certainly
                not a NVA one.

                  Certainly not NVA and probably not DDR either. Does the blade look like a proper blade that was made to be sharpened? I would suspect not because the days in which swords such as this one were actual weapons, people did not stamp them with "Made in Germany". My best guess is that it is a film or theatre prop.

                    Del,

                    You have a practice saber with a blunt blade that was made in Germany for import into the US. The sword predates the DDR and was probably made around WWI. It was used for fencing saber or for saber practice.

                      SCHUPO, thanks for the help. Also a thank you to you other guys for your comments. Is there a market for these? I had it for awhile and now I would like to part with it. Does anyone know what the value might be? I know it can't be much. Thanks, DEL
