      Grenzer approaches

      "What are you lookin' at?"

      "I can take pictures too."

      Closes gate

Grenzer heads back to the guard tower

I wish i knew someone here who was into the DDR as much as I am. None of my friends would be caught dead in a Strichtarn FDU. Was kind of lonely out there.

      A couple more photos:

      Genosse,
Some nice work, when you carry a MPi with a folding stock if it is slung with the stock folded it is carried barrel down, you will also find it balances better that way, if the stock is fixed and you are in a threat area then it is slung under arm with the barrel forward.

If you saw you would be photographed you would turn away or take a photo of them.

You really need a Postenführer, Grenzers worked in pairs that were never allowed to become too friendly with each other to protect both of their Political Perception.

Thank you Genossen. I drove all over that morning looking for a place clear cut into forest land that looked like it could be passed off as the frontier strip. This was the best I could find that wasn't someone's private property.

@ Mike: Thanks, that's an improvement. I had to take the photos with auto-shutter, with the sun coming and going so getting the exposure right was tricky.

I'd have to say that I like the way the FDA looks over the service tunic much more so than the summer variant. Just looks more German. When is beltring? It's not coming up for a while I assume..

Thank you Genosse Viktor. I knew you'd find some areas for improvement. Had I payed closer attention to the historical documentation available I would have seen that the KMS was indeed carried rifle down.

In my defense, I could say that I am more accustomed to carrying a bolt action rifle with the rifle up unless it was raining. Trying it out though the folding stock KMS is indeed better ballanced with rifle down.
If I could find a willing Postenführer I would have brought one. I have the gear to outfit someone but no one who is willing to wear it. Believe me I've asked and have a bizarre reputation among my friends as a result.

No prob Genosse, by this method we improve, it works for me now and will do in the future for my Direction of Interests.

You have made a fist of it, that shows in your craft.

It seems that issue of the new pouch had no relation to the rifle, only to what was in the supply closet.

Da, for all of its Prussian tradition, the mixing of patterns was permitted or at least tolerated, you see different models of FDA in ein/nein worn together .
I have even seen a NATO intelligence photo from the Anti Fascist Barrier of a Grenzer in Fj trousers, the use of different styles of ein/nein Pouches almost a Norm Genosse.

Wow, if those are orignial uniforms then that's quite a bit of money invested in reenacting. I'd be afraid to get the uniform dirty or drop something on it a lunch.

Kevin - I agree with your last comments from your latest post.

Speaking from experience, one finds that their body is much more agile and attuned to potential hazards while in full gear

Wow, if those were original and I owned them I probably would never allow them to leave my room, especially the one on the right! If they are reproductions, would love to know who made them!

Looks like you had fun VPKA, and a interesting reenactment it must have been!

                            Viktor,

Grenzer in FJ trousers? Sounds like an Aufklarer, do you have the picture?

We all seem to think alike here...!

Some very nice displayed uniforms, obviously the Grau Effektieres most of all! That's one great way to spend the weekends.

Sadly no Genosse, it was in an Album, with notes on different items of kit used or insignia, it belonged to a Genossen who sold up all his stuff and went to live in Swindon.

Richard Westerway, some of you Advanced Recoverers of state property may have bought from him in the late Nineties.

The NVA Fj Trousers were spotted by me by the clear Dolch popper with loops ( no Dolch carried though) and the padded knees, BAOR Intelligence missed that detail the Genosse had a normal FDA Jacket, equipment, MPi KM suitable for a Grenzer and a Side hat to FDA norms he was walking in a wood up a slight rise.
