    The DDR reenacted

If its OK with Michael and the Mod team, can I start a reenactment thread to stick photos of us wearing the smelly old gear?

    Hope thats ok!

To kick off, here is Genosse Viktor (right) and myself as the elite shock troops of the SED:

At this time I see no issues or problems as long as the thread continues to have a DDR collection influence and does not get out of control.

Also let our fellow DDR forum members know if there is something done or worn that is not within East German specs.

For all - please use this thread to place all DDR re-enactments into so that it is located in one area and much easier to follow for all members to find.

If anything else changes Mike and I can let you know...thanks.

Actually in the photos quite a bit of civillian clothing appears and the blue and white shirt I am wearing is a deliberate attempt to have something civillian in my getup.

Ralph, yes, I thought if we kept it to just one thread and invited comment on the presentation of the historical artifacts it would make for an interesting discussion for us all.

This is how we display our collection

As Ralph has already commented, there is absolutely no reason there cannot be a thread that is devoted to reenactment photos and dialogue. Ralph made two good points. Keep it on topic and if there is deviation from the norm, highlight and explain.

Now, where are all those reenactment photos and dialogue between the members of the different groups out there that are engaging in this sort of activity?

Now, what about us "lone reenactors" Could this be an excuse to put all that crap I bought to use?

Go for it Kevin! Get the gear on and discover all sorts of things you never knew about it from just staring at it in cupboards - like how DDR EM boots squeek, how dayderon is not fun to wear on hot days, what is "ushanka burn" and that they are so many things you cannot do while wearing a complete set of infantry equipment!

Its a voyage of discovery, welcome aboard Genosse!

I feel challenged and yet distressingly unequal to the challenge as being the show-off that I am, I have already posted most of my re-enactment photographs and I am reluctant merely to offer a repeat...

One thing I would want to point out and that is how accurate our dear friends Andy and Dave are .
As it was once remarked by Torsten when the subject of re-enacting Kampfgruppen was mentioned, a certain "abdominal girth" is required really to get into the part.
Now neither Andy nor Dave are that "well padded" but for the sake of this photograph they have obviously gone on a Sumo wrestler diet for a couple of weeks and have added a belt of cotton wool to be worn under the uniform to achieve the necessary degree of verisimilitude .
I would also want to state in writing how much I have always loved Dave's face expressions when such photographs are taken. they show the determination and dedication that I - strive as I might- cannot hope ever to achieve

And on the subject of Kampfgruppen and their facial expressions, I cannot let slip this opportunity to share with you with beautiful contrast that I find on opposite pages of one of the earlier coffee table books: "Unsere Natiuonale Volksarmee"
Here we have a "Good German"...

And now look what appalling "provocation" he faces!!

Talking of western decadence! I mean look at those sandals, the jeans a stereo even undoubtedly playing some Rock 'n Roll, that devastatingly corrupting rythm

Just to confirm: this is not a joke, those two photographs are on opposite pages of the same book and they are clearly meant to be seen together...

The message that one is meant to understand is just so absurbdly over the top, that I do wonder whether someone was not trying to slip in a coded ironic reading of these photographs for those who had eyes to see and ears to listen...
