    Hi,

I figure most people have understood Brathahns comments but if not here are some translations. If I had more time I would do this more often.

    Brathahn,

    Ausgezeichnete Uniformen....Outstanding uniforms.

    Hallo,

The NCO in the first picture is wearing a 1st model service uniform. This model is extremely rare and was produced only for a very short time and then replaced by the Uniform with the split sleeves. Picture of the jacket comes from my collection.

Modell.

When I get the chance I will post details of the Tunic in comparison with the 2nd type.

Here are details of the tunic. The buttons of the unifrom are gray painted metal buttons.

I looked for this Tunic for a long time and was prepared to spend a lot of money for it but luckily I got it for a very good price.

So I bought the tunic for 180 Euros from a dealer who sells a lot of Wehrmacht and Imperial German items. He knew the tunic was an early NVA tunic but he didn't know how rare it was but I did!

Somehow I am always suspicious of anything that is either Stasi or Fallschirmjäger...

The collar tabs on this eBay tunic are positioned differently compared to those on Stephan's tunics. The latter are parallel with the upper edge of the closed collar (the normal Litzen position on closed collar tunics since imperial times), whereas the ones on the eBay tunic are parallel with the bottom edge of the collar, a layout that looks smarter (and is more typically found) on open-collared tunics. The lapel press mark on the eBay tunic suggests that it was (often?) worn with the collar open. Perhaps that's how it was supposed to be for the Fallschirmjäger?

This dealer had a Falli officer's tunic that had similarly positioned collar tabs, but with no press mark on the lapel; which suggests that it was worn with a full-time closed collar:

He does seem to have access to a lot of uncommon stuff, including spare parts; although this may not mean anything in and of itself.

Pretty cool tunic with or without the questions marks...

Thanks for the translations. Good job I must say.

The position of the Kragenspiegel does not raise any significant alarm bells with me. Having attached on a blank, mint tunic the tresse and the tabs, I know that space becomes VERY limited once the tresse is in place and that in practice one has to align the tabs to the tresse and not the upper fold of the collar, otherwise the top corner at the back of the tab sticks out, if you see what I mean. I am also not concerned about its possibly having been worn open at the neck: that was per regulation for conscripts and short term NCOs during the hot season, as in those days there wasn't a shirt sleeve order of dress for these soldiers. Officers on the other hand would not ordinarily have worn their dark collar tunics with an open neck at ANY time, and had the season been very hot, they would have worn the Hemdbluse.

What concerns me instead are those cuffs, given that David_H has shown to us what Sturm have been doing to them... (Did they also stitch holes for the belt hooks?)
Fallschirmjäger dark collar tunics are VERY rare regardless of age. This one, even without the Falli insignia, would be much, much rarer than any other dark collar tunic. It might be genuine, but if it is, it is phenomenally rare! Is it too rare to be true? That is my question and I have not found an answer yet.
I hasten to add that my question is purely academic, (I teach at a university after all []) as I have never been interested in Falli stuff.

as to Gene T question about the positioning of collar tabs
you will find them originaly sewn both ways and sometimes divided between these two positons.

Here's two photos of uniforms I saw at the Dresden army museum.
They have some great displays there.

(Pretty sad that general's tunic hangs in the backrow though)

I would very much like to see some detailed shots of the split cuff tunic interior. I would especially like to see the interior of the cuff split and buttons. I would also like to see the interior of the belt hook vents! I love this stuff! Too Cool! Thanks for your time! Chris

Not to forget the theme. Here is the 1956 variant for the Air Force.
