I typed in "german uniform" a few minutes ago on eBay to see if some sellers would sell NVA stuff as Wehrmacht stuff...and look at this!
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/WWII-WW2-Ger...item3f23e53cbe
A 1983 dated NCO tunic and officer's breeches for $99...and someone actually BID on it!

(Pfft, I just ordered a similar tunic from Gowen for $25. But don't tell the bidder. )

This is actually a fraud, because he's claiming that it is a original WW2 set from 1942 "designed by hugo boss". That should not be allowed by ebay. It's not allowed to sell fake Rembrant or Monet on the international market, I don't understand why it would be allowed to sell 80's NVA uniform as WW2 "piece of history". The bidder is maybe a young naive fellow who want to start a collection and really believe in the seller's bull****. That makes me mad.

Hmm, emptying pockets of the collectors - not good... Selling it is wrong, but bidding $99 is just dumb, even if you're young and naive. Read first, buy later...

Is there a way to contact ebay to stop this sale?

          This is fraud!

There is a Report Item button on each offers site. Takes you 4 Clicks to report it.

This item is not really DDR-related, and the seller isn't trying to fool anyone (except perhaps himself?), but I think it does sort of belong in this thread by virtue of being the funniest thing I've seen on ebay in quite a while:

It's actually a lot of work!

Not only is it missing the gold diamonds but is RIDICULOUSLY too high for just the shoulderboards:

Wow! No kidding! That's the poorest reproduction of any military item i've ever seen! What is that? A modified stock pot? It's pretty sad someone actually wasted their time putting the work in to making that thing. Now what would make this funnier is if someone actually bought it.

I once saw some guy who tried to make an early SS/SA uniform by dying the blue or white officer jackshirts brown, and making it shorter like the old fasch ones used to be. It was pretty awful to see.
He also badly tucked in the flap on the breast pockets to make them look more like the original brownshirt pockets so it looked really awkward.

As if this one wasn't bad enough, the buyer actually got in a bidding war over it! Final price: $202.50 AND the seller is gouging on shipping! That on top of the fact that it's a 100% misrepresented item you've got your self a triple whammy I***a. That's what you get for being completely ignorant I guess. I just hope the poor garment can somehow be saved from further Nazification.

What's worse is that the sizes don't match up; G48 tunic with K56 trousers. I guess you could say that that went a bit pear-shaped.

Both bidders in the auction are WWII collectors from the looks of their 30-day bid histories.

                        ---

For me the big eBay joke, and a profoundly unfunny joke it is, is that they got rid of the wildcard search. It absolutely beggars belief that they did that.

They introduced it last year that you could not do any more new searches using a wildcard and about two weeks ago this extended to already saved searches and email notifications.

Added to that, the new search - with whatever makeshift beta database they are using - is utterly, utterly useless.

I came across a workaround where you inject some code into the URL after performing the initial search and which recognises the wildcard character. Has anyone been using this?

Has this been discussed elsewhere on WA? I did a search but could not find anything.

                          Well this one's certainly interesting.

From the looks of things, nothing looks to be screwed with, rather things are just thrown together. Wouldn't mind getting my hands on that officer hat with the BW insignia

At that price you'd probably be able to get about 10 of those hats

While looking at this offer I found another:
Officers collars with missing Waffenfarbe cords for 12 Bucks.
I still try to find out where the joke is.
