Also note that Angelina Jolie recently had her baby in Namibia. Tourism is bound to go up after that.
I just searched quite a bit through google.de and could not find any photo material at all..... Cheers, Torsten.

There are lot of these badges here in Berlin. I didn't know it was for Namibia. Thanks!

As I know, the DDR never was in the UN, so they never had the UN Patch.

The DDR was a UN member starting in 1973, see this quote from the US Library of Congress website (http://lcweb2.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/...(DOCID+de0044))

Following the conclusion of the Treaty of Moscow between the FRG and the Soviet Union in January 1970, a new era of communication began between the two German states that culminated in the signing of the Basic Treaty in December 1972. The next year, both states became members of the UN, and most countries came to recognize the GDR. Permanent diplomatic representations, in lieu of embassies, were established, respectively, by the FRG in East Berlin and by the GDR in Bonn, demonstrating the new climate of mutual respect and cooperation between the two German states.

There are also several websites that indicate that the DDR provided police to the UN Mission in Namibia in 1989.

Hehe, I know this dealer. I was at his home in Berlin. He has a lot of fake items for sale in his bunker.

Thanks Andreas for giving this thread some life again which gives me a chance to post a reply...It gets to be very difficult on how a person is going to determine if the DDR symbol patch was used in Nambia. Especially when these DDR symbol patches were used on other items as shown by my posted picture.

Is this a funeral sash? I have the same emblem from the eBay auction. The DDR crest is very small. Ralph is the one on your "sash" very small or quite big?

Bryan - the banner is around 18 inches long (45cm) and the DDR symbol is about 8cm. The banner is MfS greetings to a cosmonaut...

Thanks Ralph. I think my DDR symbol is a bit smaller.

I didn't see it was written Kosmonauten.

Again, very nice collectibles you have and for sure very rare.
