Originally posted by uscobAs I know, the DDR never was in the UN, so they never had the UN Patch.
Following the conclusion of the Treaty of Moscow between the FRG and the Soviet Union in January 1970, a new era of communication began between the two German states that culminated in the signing of the Basic Treaty in December 1972. The next year, both states became members of the UN, and most countries came to recognize the GDR. Permanent diplomatic representations, in lieu of embassies, were established, respectively, by the FRG in East Berlin and by the GDR in Bonn, demonstrating the new climate of mutual respect and cooperation between the two German states.
There are also several websites that indicate that the DDR provided police to the UN Mission in Namibia in 1989.Last edited by ehrentitle; 11-11-2007, 12:38 PM.

Thanks Andreas for giving this thread some life again which gives me a chance to post a reply...It gets to be very difficult on how a person is going to determine if the DDR symbol patch was used in Nambia. Especially when these DDR symbol patches were used on other items as shown by my posted picture.Attached FilesSomebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did. Quote - Sophie Scholl - White Rose resistance group

Bryan - the banner is around 18 inches long (45cm) and the DDR symbol is about 8cm. The banner is MfS greetings to a cosmonaut...
