don't want to detract from the purpose of the thread, but I do not think this is Heinz Hoffmann...but, I do think that any pics of Heinz Hoffmann would be very much related to the early NVA history... Cheers, Torsten.

I agree, if they are period related. If for example this were in fact a photo of Heinz Hoffmann, it would not be period related. My point.

Here is an auction I had an eye on with early pictures from East Germany. It was cancelled, because it says « The seller ended this listing early because of an error in the minimum bid or Reserve amount. »

        What a great liar.

sorry, but I have to defend the seller here...of course, I have no idea what the real reasons are for him ending the auction., but it is his right to end the auction early and for any reason he wants, before the auction is finished....there could be all sorts of reasons here...

but, what exactly did you think you were buying here??? I do not understand the auction??..is it supposed to be a loose collection of photos or a scrap book with newspaper cuttings or a photo album or what?? you do not believe, that these photos are genuine, privately taken period photographs, which were developed and printed at the time....do you? Or do you think that these would have been original press photographs??...maybe, I overlooked something in the auction description, but I have no idea what was for sale there and I certainly would not have bid on it, without getting further clarification from that seller....I think this auction might have been for something other than what you think it is... just a hunch I have got about this one...Cheers, Torsten.

The seller sold the other pictures from the set a month ago starting at $10 each pictures. Now was selling (or sold) the rest of the set in one shot. I already bought 4 pictures from the previous set. Maybe you are right, they may not be original. I don't really know what to say except that I'm sure he has received an offer for the whole set. The reason why I'm pretending that, it is because this guy has an internet site and list the pictures at the same time on eBay without removing them.

I can still see the pictures I bought on his site.

Here is an example of what he is selling. Look for the Sigmund Jähn.

hope we are not too much off topic.

Brian, I still do not fully understand what types of photos it is that the guy is selling, but he can end his auctions and accept outside offers for them at any time, before the scheduled end of the auction...I do this regularly...I put an item up on ebay...someone makes me an offer, that I cannot possibly refuse, I stop the auction and the item is sold outside of ebay...nothing wrong with that... good luck...and please let me know what the photos are like, when you receive them...what type of paper is it and is there anything printed on the back of the photos... Cheers, Torsten.

Actually, if you have read eBay rules it is illegal. There was already a bid on it and the seller is lying by saying there was a mistake on the listing. I think this is an unfair auction. I know it's on Internet, but if it was like that in auction houses, it would be unfair. That's how I see it.

I do have them since 2 months or so. The pictures are not glossy. They are bigger than normal pictures, I think they are 6" X 8". The back is all white. Nothing written, nothing special. They look original to me, but if somebody says they are reproductionm, I will believe him.

Illegal????.... what? In the state of Ebayland???..come on... will you be dragged in front of an ebay-judge and be thrown into ebay jail???... ebay will not be making any money out of this sale and of course in Ebayland that is the worst possible crime of all....Ebayland-Treason so to speak...

of course it is a bad thing when you have set your heart into buying an item and then suddenly it is pulled from sale, but life goes on and that is just the way it is...believe me, it has happened to me more than once as well, when I was interested in buying an item, but the seller has the right to cancel the auction at any time at all (until the last 12 hours before the end of the auction), for any reason that suits him, until the end when it is sold, the seller owns the item...sorry. Cheers, Torsten.

PS: Obvious lesson to draw would be not to buy from this seller again, if you do not like this or to make the seller an offer off-ebay as soon as you see an item that you are interested in and maybe you will be the one buying it, possibly for less than you would have had to pay through ebay??

THanks a lot for those pictures and taking the time to show them, I really liked the two last ones. I love those uniforms the ones with the collar tabs in that way.
