I recently bought a Soviet officer cap that appears to be a M55 model but is dated as being made in 1973.
My belief that it's an older model comes from the much smaller, Fibreboard visor, the shorter woolen band and the slightly smaller crown.
The only other hat I can compare it to is a post-1994 Russian federation cap (the model that resembles the M69, not one of the large "Pinochet" cap), and from photos it certainly seems to more closely resemble the 50s version.
I am wondering if the M55 was continued in production or if this is a well made fake or if it is merely a factory that continued producing the older model.
