Hello all…Well not having my resources with me at this time. At first glance I see possible Mongolian influence with possibly something to do with horses…maybe <ST1
Calvary</ST1. You have already mentioned jubilee so I am assuming 50 years of something...
Wild ass guess right now…something to do with the Mongol empire. Of which I hope I am helping someone else out on the forum to CONQUER this medal...

I was going to say I only know the Suche Bator and I'd of thought Mong too. Alot of the medals badge's etc carry sabres and horsey related bits and bob's.

Was away for a time (some of us actually work). See another medal is up. Don't want to take away from the posting relevant the new item, but had to respond to Dave and the airplane pins, badges, medals and the story that went with them. Absolutely wonderful items and some really great and all but forgotten history there. I didn't even know this happened. Now, thanks to this Forum, this thread, and Dave's participation, I do.
Dave, you mentioned there is or was a "Memorial" relevant this expedition (Flight from Moscow to New York). Does that mean they didn't make it to New York, or that they didn't make it back to Moscow? I hope they made it safely okay both ways.
Thanks for sharing this bit of forgotten history with all of us. It is really appreciated.

Hey Dave thanks for the reply - update. I may continue to be off in the wrong area, but I am also thinking about the STANS region from their heritage along with Soviet influence before and during the Cold War...

Getting close, but still not quite. Now here's a hint though... This unit was celebrated because someone in the unit. And this someone was from one of the "southern" parts of the USSR. Beyond that, the connection (as far as I know) between this unit and the stans ends. Another hint... Because of this person in the unit, the badge is of such a high quality and serial numbered. The general it belonged to apparently (according to his son, who incidentally, was also a general) wore it as his most prized medal.

P.S. With regard to the memorial to the Moscow-New York flight, it was contructed because of the momentous occasion - the crew made it safely back to Moscow (though perhaps to the GULAG not long thereafter!)
Tonight I'll edit the post and include a picture of the memorial. Perhaps someone from NYC could check to see if the memorial still exists?

Alright Dave...this for sure has been a good round to work through...like all the others so far. Since the Central Asia region or the STANS was taken out and your additional hint.
I have been re-re-reviewing my answers again and doing some additional searching and I am now looking at the Caucasus region down to Turkey...That's my final answer...I think...

You've commented the medal is connected with the South and Civil War. I still have no idea about the medal itself, but is it of Georgian origin? It must have something to do with the Bolsheviks military success over the White Russians in the Crimean?
Two Red Russian Generals I can think of that were very instrumental in victory over White Russian Military Forces in the Crimean, were:
Mikhail Frunze
Mikhail Tukhachevski
Whatever the history behind this medal - its a damned nice looking one.
