This one from December 1938 of Lieutenant V. U. Barunin of the 2nd Tank Regiment is unfortunately quite dark--but note the extremely early Order of the Red Star being worn on the LAPEL of his gray armor corps service tunic, and the heraldrically improper backwards facing ("run away!") tank devices on his tabs. Barunin survived the Winter War anyway, since the same photo was recyced as his ID file shot in December 1940 when he was in the 10th Tank Regiment.

Junior Lieutenant ("3rd Lt" if western armies had such a rank) P. I. Ivanov's photo is undated, but states that he was in the "27th Auto Transport" regiment! Note that he has quite unusual tiny TANK devices on his overcoat tabs-- but NO devices on his gimnastyorka rank tabs! -
close up of the tabs, showing that the patch extends over the edges of the collar and is sewn underneath. His tanks are facing inward, "attacking" each other-- apparently these were placed facing any which way at the wearer's whim.Comment

LtCol D. F. Kanevsky of the 1st Officers' School Tank Regiment (circa 1944) is wearing M1943 green gimnastyorka with his old M1935 gray topped armor corps visor cap (note the 2 piece officer's cap star). Next to his early suspension OPW is a severe wound stripe.Comment
