    RE: Cold War Era Aircraft

I'm not sure if this Forum is appropriate for this subjet matter or if it is even of interest. But I have some photos taken in 2003 of various Soviet type aircraft used by the DDR during the cold war. They are housed at the former British Air Base in Gatow, Berlin, Germany. I'll just post a couple. If okay and there is interest, I'll post more. (?) They of course are for not only your interest and viewing, but downloading if you desire.

Some are fixed wing and some rotary aircraft.

I'll start with the most mundane one first, in case this is not the right veniew. If okay, and there is interest, I have some additional photos of more interesting aircraft:

This completes the posts unless there is no problem, and there is interest. If okay, and there is interest, I have some more.

        Okay,

I guess if they are inappropriate for this forum, the moderators can "NIX" them. Also, if they are okay and remain, I would encourage others who have actual photos (Not scans from books) to participate.

The next photos are of the MI -8 HIP. This was used extensively by WARSAW Packt Nations for transport, particularly of ground force units as well as supplies in small unit operations. There was a variant of this highly successful design designated the MI-14 codenamed Haze by NATO.

On some of these photos (and others that will be posted), the Bundeswehr Cross will appear, instead of the East German Air Services Triangle. That's because at the close of 1990, some East German aircraft actually entered service for a short time with the German Military. (Transitional Period).

                          RE: Antonov AN-2

This next aircraft is a bit unique, even though it has the destinction of having been produced in more numbers than any other aircraft in the world. It is of Soviet origin and was first produced in 1947. The West, upon first seeing it, thought for sure the Russians had lost it, and that it was a step back in aviation design, as it was a bi-wing. However, this aircraft was designed with a specific purpose, and served that purpose so well, it was massed produced in unbelievable numbers. In 1960 it was licensed to Poland. It was also produced in China. Between 64 and 70, the Soviets produced a few hundred of these aircraft with "Angular Tails". This obviously is one of them. The DDR primarily used this aircraft for the elite and para units.
