    Soviet General's Overcoat

Hannibal asked to see scans of one of these, so here are some made from photos I took of mine. The color is alas either too light or too dark, which is much the same effect I get trying to use the occasionally-borrowed scan camera. If it won't fit on the scanner, I'm not very good at getting pix!

This particular example is a WW2 era one, M1946 buttons, with the original M1943 type Soviet seal button collar tabs updated to the M1954 style shown here. The boards (for an artillery Major General) are still the button on type rather than the sewn down.

Infantry generals wore red piping with red tabs. Artillery and Armore had red piping with black tabs. Air Force had sky blue tabs and piping, technical branch generals had wine color, etc etc.

The material, as could be expected, is finest doeskin material.

All the buttons are the Soviet state seal of the particular era type, as worn by generals. For closeups, do a search on "Soviet buttons" and you will find closeups in the back pages.

        Hey, Rick...
        Splendid coat!

Now, more importantly, is that an original Soviet General's cat in the backround of one of the photos? Wow, that is really an extraordinary find !

          Thanks

          Dear Rick

It is a very beautiful greatcoat indeed. I really like the doeskin of this greatcoat. Thanks for sharing with us . BTW what tunic do you have under the greatcoat?

          best regards

Underneath that is a 1953 dated (last year worn, into 1954) Major General tunic-- brought it up from the back pages (it is under "Rare WW2 Militia General" thread) For closeup on the clear "glass" ribbon bar on it, search "Soviet Ribbon Bars."

Here are a pair of bedraggled infantry general's M1954 overcoat collar tabs. I flipped one over to show the back construction too.

BTW, The Senior Cat is VERY proud of his coat and thanks you for your praise!
