Hannibal asked to see scans of one of these, so here are some made from photos I took of mine. The color is alas either too light or too dark, which is much the same effect I get trying to use the occasionally-borrowed scan camera. If it won't fit on the scanner, I'm not very good at getting pix!
This particular example is a WW2 era one, M1946 buttons, with the original M1943 type Soviet seal button collar tabs updated to the M1954 style shown here. The boards (for an artillery Major General) are still the button on type rather than the sewn down.
Infantry generals wore red piping with red tabs. Artillery and Armore had red piping with black tabs. Air Force had sky blue tabs and piping, technical branch generals had wine color, etc etc.
