    Soviet Sub Clock

This is something I did a long time ago, maybe 10 years now. I bought that sub clock and had a friend make a mantel-thingee for it to sit on. He did it for me in Teak and Mahogany. I then added a few embellishments like the Order of the Red Star and the Order of the Great Patriotic War and some Soviet Navy related items. I had an extra DDR Volksmarine cap cockade so I tossed that onthere as well in the interest of comradship.
The clock keeps fairly poor time. It'll go for a month or three keeping perfect time then it'll gain or lose a few minutes, or just completely stop. I spent over a hundred USD once to have it taken apart, adjusted and lubricated. It still ran like crap. So now I drop a little Shimano Reel Oil in it whenever it starts acting up. That seems to do the trick.

A side view of the setup. Teak base and Mahogany vertical piece. You can see the winding key on the back. I just drilled a shallow hole in the back on an angle so I can store the key near the clock.

A close up of the right side showing the Order of the Red Star. I have the screw on disc behind both orders so I don't scratch a circle in the wood when I screw the Order into it.

          something different

well....kinda. Actually this was base design that I didn't like and declined in favor of the above design. I still made a clock out of it. Bought a cheap Japanese quartz movement and this one keeps perfect time! All Mahogany this time. Some basic Soviet insignia.
I haven't decided if I want to keep this one. If anyone's interested......
          Thanks,

Oh yeah, that's 'Tickle Me Elmo' on the right in the last image.

Very nice clock! It reminds me of the clock that my grandfather made many years ago.
