    Investing in a Soviet M69

I posted a while back with questions on how to sew, and what insignia to sew to a Soviet M69 field uniform. Many thanks to those who helped me again! Anyway, it is a long time since that post but here is what I wound up with. An M69 signals (correct me if I'm wrong) tunic:

    I also have this:

Am I correct in guessing that it is an EM jack-shirt intended to be worn under a dress tunic? Hence the replacement of board loops with simple button epaulettes? I really am not sure.

I have a subdued tunic, belt and a set of breeches on the way, all I need now is a Pilotka and a collar liner. I think I should be able to find a Pilotka without too much trouble, but where can I find collar liners? I will post more photos once the ensemble is complete. Hopefully my fellow NVA Genossen will approve of my expanding "political perception."

    HET! Comrade,

The Shirt is worn with Parade Dress and Walking-out Dress under the jacket or with Walking-out Dress as Shirt Sleeve Order as per Regulation wearing Dates and/or Commandeers Orders.

    Your Jacket is Everyday Dress............

Collar liners are just white material cut to shape and tacked in by the Soldiers themselves on the whole, it is cheaper than buying cut ones from their "Regimental Store"..

Comrade, You need to investigate the 69 Dress Regulations of the Soviet Army closer, such lack of Political Perception will and now is bodding ill on your Employment record.

It is always permitted to follow any Progressive Direction of Interest, if it was not for our " Friends " we wouldn't been able to recover the Scale of Issue of the Workers Paradise after the unpleasentness of 1945 would we.....

I wouldn't wish you to become a drain on SMERCh's Small Arms ammunition ....

I certainly did not intend the shirt to go with the pictured tunic. I can at least gather that such a shirt would be worn with an open collar tunic, which the every day dress is not. It simply was the only other soviet item in my collection that I thought was worthy of risking my neck to inquire about. I do see that I did not make the separation clear in my report. Future reports will be more thoughtfully worded I can assure you comrade.

As for the liner, I will go about looking for some white fabric to fashion one out of. While I know fabric of progressive origin would be preferable, I would sooner cut up some bourgeoisie capitalist garment.

Comrade, It is understandable to misunderstand this Latin Script, it is very clumsy...

I use a white bed sheet from The Dorchester Hotel in London for my Collar liners.

Now that Comrades is Class War !... I, five years back used to work there while building my Legend to work against the Military- Industrial Complex.

Found some liners for sale on US eBay. search for number 350008396385 or just "collar liners"
          Thanks,

Never heard of them being ready made for issue... you make them yourself!

Finally, some pictures of the completed uniform! Some things to note: The Pilotka that came with the set I bought on ebay is too small, I need to invest in a bigger one. Also the boots aren't exactly soviet, I'm sure several comrades from the forum, or at least Iannima, can identify them though.

First, the signals ensemble, complete with collar liner:

              And a side view:

I hope I have done well enough not to require sending out the duty car.

I also got my hands on a bigger, and hence ill fitting, Subdued tunic which I stuck some subdued motorized rifles collar devices on. I didn't, however get around to sewing a liner in as I don't intend to wear it much:

I do have a question about this tunic. The upper most button is a simple small plastic one, much like the design of an NVA summer tunic. It is also missing a collar hook. Does this mean that it is intended to be worn with the collar open?

              Close ups of this:

And so my Soviet collection grows.

                Comrade,

My former Soviet soldier friends always tell me that you don't do up the top button on your tunic unless you see an officer... if you see an officer then you make like you are doing it up but don't... and just give up when he has passed

These and other little things don't make you look like a "ghost"

Ahhh... By "ghost" do you mean the cutting off of blood to the head? The collars on these things are pretty damn tight.

Oh and one more question.. Are there any badges (specifically for a signals ensign) I should be looking for to complete the impression? Or was such décor not warn on a field tunic?

Maybe a Guards badge, depending on what unit you're assigned to, and a proficient serviceman's badge? I'm not sure such a low rank as yours actaully would wear any decorations. I'm kinda weak on uniform regulations.
Oh, I think you could put a sports badge on there as well.
                    Thanks,

Even on the left side of the chest necessarily Komsomol badge. Аnd on the right, as an option, the badges "Warrior-athlete," Excellence in the Soviet Army". But the latter not for the "ghost". Comrade Kozlov, I think, meant by "ghost" of the soldier-recruit. This is Russian military slang.

                        "ghost" - new recruit

You could wear... a proficiency badge, a guards badge (for guards units obviously only), a military sports badge and for your age a Komsomol badge wouldn't look out of place... (get the military one - with a screw back not a pin back)

Ghost = New Recruit.. Good to know.

And thanks for the input. I will get to looking for some badges to give it less of a "Ghost" look.

You will have to be drop kicked around the barrack block for a year by the grandfathers before you get to wear the badges

Maybe I'll just boast simply the Komsomol badge after all.
