May be a copy. Seems to be losing it's fur. Or maybe it's just that season.

Might be yugoslav. They used the star also.

Yep, this star is often seen on titovkas (yugoslav garrison caps/pilotkas).

It is definitely a Yugoslav hat. Post 1945 but used during the communist period.

                Thanks!

Damn. I could have sworn it was Lenin's personal nightcap. But thanks for letting me know about reality! I appreciate all of the help.

This is definitely NOT yugoslav hat. Yugoslav army never used ushankas or anything like that. They rather left their soldier's ears to freeze than look like Russians There were some test ushankas intended for police in Slovenia, but never came into use and they looked way different.

                  Regards, valter

Valter. Well, darn it! I thought I had the answer; but seeing that you are from Slovenia I suspect you know what you are talking about, so I definitely appreciate your input! I guess you are telling me that this is not Tito's personal hat......that is how I was going to list it on eBay. Well, not really.

                    Anyone else have any ideas?

                    Thanks!

thanks, Massoud. So at least we seem to be narrowing it down to southeastern SSRs. Maybe the easier way to identify it is to determine what countries it ISN'T from. Through the process of elimination I can make a better educated guess.

A Chinese acquaintance (oldsoldier-88) says it isn't Chinese, as I was originally told.
A Slovenian, Valter Gorenc, says definitely not Yugoslavian.

So, what else is it NOT? If anyone else can venture a guess as to what it is or isn't, I will appreciate it. For some reason this cap is taking on more interest to me now.

Looks Chinese but not Chinese... I'd say Albanian then for sure!

I bought one of these in the 70's. The box it came in had about 50 and it was all in a large shipment from Yugoslavia. It is possible they were from somewhere else and routed through Yugoslavia but I doubt it. The Yugoslavian 'pilotka' hats have the same star insignia sewn into the front. These are not Ushankas and do not really have a similar appearance.
