Here are some north korean pieces. Orders of National Flag I, II(1980s-90s) and III class(1970s), and 40th anniversary of Fatherland liberation(1993), and a meritorious service medal, late issue(1980s).

These are all made in North Korea, so quality is far far away from those nice soviet pieces shown earlier in this thread. But enamels fron Nat´l flag I and III are higher quality compared to II class.

      Any comments appreciated.

      Regards,
      Esteban

“Commie enamel”? A fascinating subject. I think that world wide, the finest examples of enamel on awards would have to fall under this category.

It has always intrigued me that even during the darkest times (1942-43) the quality of Soviet awards did not diminish one bit. We have seen many fine examples in this thread which cover a wide range of awards and states. Personally, I feel that the very best quality enamel is to be found on the early Soviet made Mongolian awards. Below is my personal favorite - no photo or scan can do it justice.

North Korea National flag order (2nd class). High quality soviet made (50's) in silver with hot enamel, not one of the ugly thing you find today.

Garulfo - Some of the medals you have posted are interesting. I have not seen the Afghan ones before. What time frame of these medals?

thanks ralph, these orders are from the 80's, during communist period. more info here : http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...hlight=afghan*

There is a thread about afghan medals on the soviet awards forum too.

By the way, I believe that the cap badge is made with paint rather than enamel (hot or cold).
