    what are these?

    these are not mine, i just spoted them on the web and was wondering what they are(?)

    Without hitting the Avers book, I can tell you that, assuming they are genuine (which I am unable to make an educated guess at from the photos) both are very early Soviet badges- 1920's. The machine gun plus winged wheel badge would indicate mechanized gunner, while the other would be for cavalry. Note the first emblem of the Soviet army- the hammer and plough. This MAY have been borrowed from the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB) flag- known as the "Starry Plough"- from the Easter Rising of 1916. Lenin considered James Connolly's army as the first Red Army.

      Just consulted my Avers #2 and couldn't find either badge. Not necessarily a cause for alarm since Avers #2 is, at best, a handy guide book type of thing. Perhaps someone fortunate enough to own an Avers #8 (around $250) could chime in.

          I have never met an Irish Vegan.
          Perhaps comrade Lenin was thinking of the blood spilt for Irish freedom? Although with all the Guiness, it should perhaps be the Brown?
