    inside rear has a stamp of 3-xxxx, so that makes it a size 3 shell, quite large...

          I would like to see better pics, but the paint is very new looking and shines. Any ink stamps to the shell? The liner needs a closer look too.

          These pattern helemts are being made using Czech M53 shells and fake new made liners added.

          Cheers, Ade.

              2 more pics

              does it still look like a Czech M53 remake with a fake liner?

                Shouldn't these have an oil cloth strip sewn around the lower part of the cloth bag liner (where it is stitched)? I think they should, if I recall correctly.

                  Hi,

                  The stamp 3-xxxx is typical russian marking, it's correspond to the size, the a metallurgic serial number maybe...
                  We know Czech reused soviet helmets after ww2, but essentielly Ssh 40 shells, theses shells have the propriety to have the 6 holes of the old russian liner to be bridge with rivets.

                  So, we can suppose it's a russian Ssh 39 reused by the Czech, the color is typical to the Czech Vz 53 !
                  And the liner seems to be a fake !

                  ++

                    I would not buy this helmet unless you were looking for a re-enactor peice. I am just not convinced by it.

                    Hi Steve, yes the liner will typically have an oilcloth sweatband. However, some were not produced with this feature.

                    Here is a good dealers site which shows many Ssch39's in detail:

                      thank you fellas! i suspected the paint being a Czech reissue. with that concluded, the liner cloth must be a replacement as well. no dice then.

                        Doesn't look like a Czech ordnance colour to me... looks very Soviet salamander green on my monitor.

                        However I'd say for sure its is a lash up - Soviet shell with bodged liner. No SSh39 I've ever seen had a liner quite like that.

                          Who is reproducing early liners? I have a 36 pattern helmet but it has a replaced liner that is the three pad style.
