I think he's a major by his boards. I see two stripes which makes him, what is the term, a field officer? But no rank stars.
The ID book from which this image was taken was dated 1958.
So the top row is probably ORB (RS?), RS (ORB?), BM, CSM.
The second row seems to be a VoG, Berlin, and then a Prague (only because of the lightness of outer stripe colors), and a 30 years of the Red Army medal.
The bottom row might be 40 years of the Red Army and a 20 years Irreproachable Service medal. Both were instituted the year before this ID was issued (and presumabley the photo was taken).
If my assumptions are true could it be he got one (or more) of the top row's awards for long service and then the 20 years ISM as well? Or is the last award a non-Soviet medal?
