    Russian Airborne uniform

    Hello,

Can you help with any information regarding this uniform i.e shoulder boards, lanyard and style of jacket.

He seems to have had a ribbon bar at one time and a couple of holes where badges have gone missing.

The badges remaining are in the 70s-80s style enamel and paint and cheap looking unlike earlier similar badges. They are:

Military Sportsman 1st Cl. (60's-80's style)

    Proficent Army Service Man.

Army Proficency (For enlisted men) 1st Cl. (70's-80's style).

On the lapel, VLKSM Membership cica 70's-80's.

    Guards Badge (Elite Unit)

Parachute Jump Badge with 200 jumps.

So I can assune he served likely in the 70's - 80's.

Any help on this would be great,I appreciate your time thank you,

    Kind regards,

    Marcus

                    Hi Marcus,

This seems to be a short timer's tunic. The tunic itself is the EM/NCO type suggesting the owner served only his mandatory duty. The rank is unusual for a conscript but not uncommon.

If the owner were a long timer he would have most likely worn an officer's type tunic and would not have "celebrated" the end of his service by "enhancing" the looks of his jacket.

Modifications of the boards, collar tabs, and sleeve insignia were the usual "must do" things a short timer had to do. The aiguilette (sp?) is something one doesn't see often.

The badges have been stuck on with no rhyme or reason as to their correct place

Date wise I would place the tunic into the 1980s. In the seventies he most likely would have used the "bullion" rank stripes and the metal "CA" devices; here he had to butcher another pair of boards.

Personaly, I like this kind of things and even used to collect short timers shoulder boards. Sometimes true pieces of art

Hope I could help a little, and would live to hear other input.

                    br,
                    Al

PS sorry about the CCC. It is a relic from the 80s. I also got suckered into buying a bronze and a silver one in the late eighties...

Thank you Albert for your kind words on the CCC and your help on the uniform.

How should I put the badges on to make it correct (ish).

I've another Russian uniform with boots, hat and his bugle ! He has an aiguilette also. It could be all be put together by some one ? I'll post that in a day or two please would you mind looking at that also.

Thank you for your help Albert,

                      Kind regards,

                      Marcus

                        Hello MArcus,

Sorry, I had to go on a business trip.

Yes, please post the pics of the uniform you mentioned. Do you have any Soviet Army regulations on the wear of uniforms?

                        Best regards,
                        Al

                          Hello Al,

No I don't have any regulations on the wear,I've scoured a couple of books with the badges in wear, so I think I'm half way there.

I'll post the pic's in the morning of the other uniform, thank you for that.

I always liked the Russian uniforms and East German so I have alot of them and medals.

I've bought them from Germany and the Czech Republic when I lived in Germany, well that is posted out there in Paderborn.

I have what was purported to be a STASI (is that correct) uniform amongst others with boots, belt and holster side cap, peaked cap, tie jacket and shoulder boards and trousers. I bought that in Dresden for 10 Dm's the first time I was out there in '94.

There's a great Australian resturant there, very romantic at night time Dresden and they are rebuilding it to it's former glory; beautiful place been there a few times on the way to Berlin.

Ooop's just reminisceing there sorry, thank you Al.

                          Kind regards,

                          Marcus

                            Hi Marcus,

aint nothing wrong with positive impressions and good memories

10 DM for a complete Stasi uniform! now, that was a steal even in 1994!

I used to collect Soviet Uniforms as well but decided to focus on medals. But primarily I collect WWII GE. I still have some uniforms left but don't have the slightest idea what to do with them.

It is helpful to have one of the latest issues of the manuals on the wear of uniforms; there is a section on the placing and spacing of badges and decorations. If you know what you want on the AB uniform we can figure out were to put it

                              Hi Al,

Thanks for this, I've just taken this pic of the badges and numbered them; would you be so kind as to tell me which numerical order I should put them in.

There also seems to be a couple of holes where other badges may have present at one time, any wild guesses at what would be appropriate to perhaps add on.

                              kind regards,

                              Marcus

PS Dresden is lovely at Christmas there is a little market of wooden huts selling glass and dolls, German chocolate all sorts very seasonal. Germany is at its best at Christmas.
