    Soviet General's belt?

    Hello!

Been meaning to ask for a while... ages ago I picked up a belt which is in the style of a 70's/80's Soviet officer belt (brown leather, orange decorative stitching) but this one has a "cut out star belt buckle" (similar to WW2 service dress) however it doesnt have the "post" type fastening of the earlier belts, but instead the double prong style. Additionally behind the cut out star is a thin flap of leather.

Is this a general's service dress belt?

Sorry, going to have to start this thread without a photo.. will try and do one a bit later if you can't guess without

A Pic would help a lot, sounds like a Duty-Buckle mounted to a Dress Belt.
Is it with the State Seal?

Ok, the original question I thought of having just remembered about the belt, which I hadn't seen for some time!

Now I've got photos for you and of course I have seen it again... and some of the details from memory above are obviously incorrect! Anyway, from these I think now its a 1955 dated officers service dress belt.

None the less, I've never seen another like it!

I have seen this type of belt with the big star buckle before. And they are always described as general's belt.

Actually as Nico was getting at, a General's buckle has the State Seal on it rather than a plain Hammer & Sickle

            buckle

No, the soviet generals leather belts did not have the state seal on them all the time; this is an older belt, circa 1950's, and is the same in construction as the WWII Generals belt. It was sometime in the 1950's or 1960 that they used the large star with state seal for the generals leather belt. This is, in my opinion, a nice 1950's generals leather belt. I'd use it for a nice WWII display except the darkness of the leather gives away its postwar example; too bad.-DD

              Ahhh ok Doug!

I have a big gap in my knowledge (well, within the context of this thread, there are actually many more!) with regard to the period 1946-1969...

There is little in the way of stuff relating to this period, not in books nor in quantity of items on the market.

I suppose the Soviet militaria market is divided across WW2 (because of the interest in that conflict) and then the late 80's stuff (because of the quantities available).
