German made Marshal of the USSR 1945

A German Made Marshal of the USSR?

This uniform came out of a private colelction in Russia back in 1997. The material is the best quality I have ever seen on a non-full parade uniform. This is not suprising as it is German material! It has often been noted that the Russians used lots of captured materials and leather in making some hats and belts, etc. in 1945-1946, but this is the first instance I know of where they made a full Marshals uniform. The uniform came from the estate of Marshal Konev, though I have been told that he got the uniform as a gift for Stalin, though it was never given. I have added the hat myself; a M1940 Generals parade hat.

bitmap format scans don't come up. You need to attach jpeg jpg format scans.

The quality of the higher end Russian items, and in particular the parade items, really were top notch.

The main complaint that many of us have is that the Russians did not mark things the way the Germans did. Yes, there are stamps and such but not nearly the same number of marks a German uniform would have.

            Hi:

What does the complete marker's mark say. Why I ask is becasue KETTWIG is a small place next to Essen which was (and still is) in very Western Germany. Strange that a Soviet would have a uniform made there.

I don't think that the uniform was made there, just the fabric. I had a communication from someone in the town who said that the company is still in business and was a cloth manufacturing firm. I am assuming the cloth was captured and then a Russian or German tailor cut it to proper M1943 style.
