Hi Folks,
In speaking with kration offline, he indicated that he is now exploring an Uzi equipped platoon leader.
Thus, I am posting some pictures of my Uzi equipped PL in an effort to help his project along.
I can't wait to see kration's finished projects; he's going for a "minty" look.

Here is my guy in Schneetarn. It was noted before that the helmet cover was designed for a special Mountain Trooper climbing helmet and that normally a wet weather jacket is worn under the camo but over the padded cold-weather liner.

Dear Bundeswehr Veterans,
kration and I had a discussion the other day about the large buckle on the cartridge belt.
Did you keep one that still retained all of its olive drab paint for parades and inspections? Was it "cool" to completely remove all of the leftover swatches of paint and polish the buckle up a bit? Or, did you just let the buckle alone and let the OD paint gradually wear off?

Mine is brass in colour and no trace of any green paint?
But I cannot for the life of me remember that I ever removed the paint?? I know it doesn't quite answer your question, but it's got me thinking whether or not I was issued with the brass coloured buckle or not?? I know that I would not have removed the paint because I didn't have the facility to do so.
Now I'm gonna have to pull out the box and check again!

Well, for at least some of us it was. We used two have two Koppel. One OD for training, exercise etc and a second one to wear "on base". The second one was sanded/polished. I still have mine unfortunately it applied some patina since then... Was this a common usage? I would say no. I only have seen a couple of other polished ones and very few with the Battalion insignia engraved additionally.Originally posted by Guardian 5 View Post

Interesting! ProudKraut, I don't think I've ever seen one like that before. Now I know that if I do see it that someone soldier had it modified instead of it being like this from the factory.
Dion, the paint came off very easily during use. I've had maybe two dozen of these belts and all of them (except one unissued one) had significant amounts of paint missing. Some only had the paint in the grooves and around the edges, with the rest worn off.

In my outfit we certainly didn't remove the paint either - it wore off the Koppel all by itself.
But I can remember that there was a "Spieß" in the sister batallion, FschJgBtl. 253, who in the barracks wore a silver-plated belt buckle. Maybe it was just silver paint - I never asked him, being a lowly Gefreiter... That individual also prefered jackboots over the jump boots, which were polished to an unearthly shine.Comment

Only one was issued, and, same as above, no memories of what condition it came in paint-wise. I also don't remember anyone actively removing the paint. I could very well imagine that it was done though, maybe even I did it and just can't remember now... Why was it done? Because the majority wanted to have that seasoned look, wearing, at least somewhat, faded uniforms and shoulder ranks. So a worn buckle would go with that image, a new fully painted one would not. If it was green or not was not really a concern for field exercises.
With that said, some acquired a second belt to wear with their pants, instead of the black leather belt, ending up wearing two at the same time when the jacket was worn.Comment
