I wouldn't mind seeing some additional images of the stitching holding the sweatband in at the forehead area vs the rear of the cap. Could just be the lighting but the stitching in the forehead area looks like it might have been redone -- possibly in conjunction with a visor swap.

Sorry, but if the visor has been replaced, I wouldn't have it in my collection. I just don't like how it looks. I've looked through quite a few photos of flag rank officers in the 1950s/60s and they all look about the same as this guy. The tellerform seems almost universal among the admiral ranks.

BW-Sammler, Thanks for your additional photos.

If this was a cap being offered to me, here are the concerns I would have:
Why are there multiple repairs to the forehead area? In addition to the dark attachment stitching that once went all the way around the sweatband, we can see signs of at least two additional stitching patterns. The whitish, hand-stitched, X-pattern stitching along with an underlying tan-colored V-shaped stitch line. Since the hat itself shows minimal signs of use, one must ask why these repairs are present? Who made them? And when?

Hans Baumgärtner is still in business and currently located in Langenzenn. I'm not familiar with this hat maker so I'm not sure how large a firm it is. I would be making enquiries to see if they produced Bundesmarine caps (as opposed to Wasserschutz Polizei, Handelsmarine, etc) and during what time period.

I was not able to definitively tell from your photos if the visor itself had been replaced although in my opinion, I believe it has been. You will need to look very closely at the stitching holding the lower part of the cap band. There appear to be some disturbed areas to the wool just above the attach point of the right, rear edge of the visor which could suggest a replacement.

At this point, we simply have no idea what this cap started out as (junior officer, staff officer); why it has repairs when it otherwise shows little sign of use, or when the repairs were made.

                      Added:
Is the cap band the badge is attached to sewn on or loose? The lower edge of the band, at the front of the cap (below the cap badge) looks odd.
Is the top of the visor the same color as the cap body?

I'm extremely skeptical of any admiral being too cheap/frugal to get a proper cap. The admirals of the 1950s/60s were almost assuredly former senior Kriegsmarine officers steeped in the full traditions of German naval officers. These guys simply would not, IMO, being wearing upgraded caps. As mentioned, issue-quality caps would have also been available with the correct visor.

                        Hi,

thank you for your detailed reply.

The top of the visor has in my opinion the same color as the cap body.

The cap band is loose around the badge. The badge is sewn on the cap which holds the cap band.

                        Regards

                          Here are further photos.
It´s not easy to make photos of the interior.

Definitely a replaced visor -- and not very well done, either. The interior stitching is the same crudely-done hand-stitching seen on the sweatband.

I see a few additional areas of concern, as well. Hopefully they are just the camera angle.

Sorry. I would not have this cap in my collection.
