    BGS Trooper With Camera

I have several 1950's era, German cameras in my collection. I have toyed with the idea of using them to photograph my early BGS items to get that "authentic and vintage" feeling to the photos, but I have never got around to it. For now I just display them with my BGS collection.

All of us who research and collect the early BGS items have seen the many photo albums from BGS veterans online. With so many field photos that were taken, I always assumed that it must have been common for the troopers in the field to carry personal cameras with their gear, but I have not actually seen any photos that show the cameras, until the other day.

I found a photo over at the BGS Veteran's Site that actually shows a trooper in the field, with his camera. http://www.beim-alten-bgs.de/Zu_den_...denseiten.html

Now I can justify displaying one of the cameras with my BGS field gear. I always like to have the historical photo to back up the display configuration! Does anyone else display cameras with their gear?

    Here is the photo:

Another thing I like about this photo is it appears there was a standard position to wear the pistol holster on the left side. Previously I imagined it on the right side and not worn together with the magazine pouches. Also, it's the same type holster as used by the BW. Does anyone have a P1 holster marked for the BGS?
    Very nice!

BGS P1 holsters have (usually) no NSN on them. I have seen them, but most for sale are Bw version with NSN. I forget if actually marked BGS or BUND. P1 was introduced around 1962 or 63 in BGS, need to check exact year.

Holsters were always worn on left side. This is typical German practice (although there are exceptions). Is easier to draw pistol. I have seen holsters worn with MP pouches before, but not with FN.

        BGS P1 Holster

        Hello Gentlemen,

at first, I wish you all a happy new Year and all the best.
The (brown) Holster I got from a BGS-Veteran has only the makers mark F & N, the other (black) one I have has the Mark "C. Riese Berlin 1959" on it.
I´ve seen some with an BMI (Ministry of the Interior) acceptance stamp on the inside, but until now no one with "BGS" on it.

        Best regards

        Reiner

I forgot to mention the brown P1 holsters. I was offered one once, but it later than focus of my collection, not sure, if I still have photos of it. To my knowledge, these brown holsters only used by BGS (from Meister upward).

The 1959-dated holster is interesting, as BGS not have these pistols until early 1960s. Could received older stocks from factory or Bundeswehr. Black P1 holsters were also used by Polizei in couple Länder (have seen PPBln stamped).

          Regards
