Gordon, looking at the pictures I say that the metal cleats are modern additions to pimp the boots ... the cleats and especially the srews look brand new while the soles are quite worn...

      Jens,

Looks that way to me as well. These boots, as pictured on page 214 of Schuster's book, don't have any cleats on the toe.

      Regards,

      Gordon

I have seen several pairs for sale with toe plates, so assumed, that they were part of boot. When I look now closer at period photos, it not seem to appear though. So you probably right about added.

I've also seen boots in near new condition with the plates removed. Whether this was done by the individual soldier or by official order I obviously don't have any information.

            Great Stuff

Super! Thanks for the photos of the Jump boots, Now I know what to look out for. What did the early GJR Boots look like?

Is this GJR Officer Cap considered collectible? It was given to me by a German Major who worked on my staff when I was stationed in Heidelberg in 2000. I just noticed that the cap has his OLT (1LT) rank typed , I assume that it is from the 80s?

Cap is still current style, so probably not very demanded as early ones, but it is named officer piece, which is less common.

I think, that these are type of mountain boots worn in early-mid 1960s.

                  Cassidy,

Any named piece is of interest especially since it has some personal history to you. The GJ tunic which has been in use for some time in the BW is really the only distinct uniform worn. The officers bergmutz are usually a lighter colour than the EMs. I've posted a picture below which shows the diifference in colour very well. Also a picture of the speacial ski pants worn with the short tunic. The colour guard is shown with Austrian Bundesheer troops. Mountain troops from Austria, Switzerland and Poland sometimes train and compete in Alpine games with the GJ.
As for GJ boots, what Klaus has posted would fit the time period but you will find many different boots for sale that were worn in the BW GJ. Especially since items of clothing had to be purchased from LDH.

                  Regards,

                  Gordon

Other forms of dress for the BW GJ showing the mountain boots in wear. If you collected TR GJ you will recognize the pack animals.

                        ebay

I started watching German eBay for what I need.

First, The FJR Helmet ends soon, Would this be correct for early Bundeswher or is it just BGS? It looks like it will go high? The condition is poor.

                        http://www.ebay.com/itm/201189494919...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Next here is a jacket in the condition that I would like to get. Unfortunately, I can not bid on it. Will not ship to the U.S, will not take paypal.

                        http://www.ebay.de/itm/Jacke-Tarnjac...:B:WNA:US:3160

Last, these look like the correct pants that I need?

                        http://www.ebay.com/itm/141431451445...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Any advice or help is appreciated. I am thinking of doing a full FJR and GJR Mannequin with standard Tarnjacke? This is all depending how hard this stuff is to find. I would like to find as close to mint as possible.

                        Thanks Pat,

so is the GJ in splittertarn and the FJ with Filzlaus? The 2 were not worn together.

The helmet may be ok, but will let Gordon offer his opinion on this, as he has one in his collection. Not GSG9 helmet, finish and liner are very different. The wool trousers are for the "Filzlaus". To go with jacket would be splittertarn trousers. Appear to be possibly dated 1966 - not sure, if this too late? Ignore the auction title, because seller is somewhat confused. The Filzlaus uniforms can be found easily on ebay.com also.

Darn, I let that FJ helmet get away? Was it right

I was thinking of a time frame of 1959 to around 1961 with one in tarn and the other in the Flizluas.

Did the BW have a gun case or Jump Case for the MP2 (Uzi)?

                              Pat,

FJ helmet is BW and not BGS. BGS had rough texture in a brown colour as a rule. Although, there are some blue rough textured helmets as well so hard to judge with this type of finish. I would have advised waiting for a better condition helmet had I responded to your post before the auction ended. This does give you an idea of what one of these will cost you in good condition.
Cammo tunics in good condition are hard to find. They were worn for an extended period after they should have been officially phased out. Usually you will find them with frayed cuffs, patched holes etc. and without a hood. A hood can cost you almost as much as a jacket.
Pants in good condition are hard to find as well. Especially one complete with a belt. I am still looking for a complete belt. I have one minus the buckle and that is it.
As Klaus says, filzlaus pants are not hard to find on ebay.com. Here is a current auction for a pair dated 1963.

                              http://www.ebay.com/itm/1963-DATED-W...item4d25d8b76f

And a matching tunic which you colud turn into FJ http://www.ebay.com/itm/1963-DATED-W...item4d25b130a0

I thought that I had some pictures of my FJ and BGS helmets of this type in my files but can not find them so I will have to take some pictures and post them later.

                              Regards,

                              Gordon

One must be VERY careful about FJ type helmets these days. There are many, many, many fakes out there that have been artificially aged and damaged. They are getting to be very tough to filter out unless you have extensive knowledge of what to look for. Personally, I don't think that was a BW FJ helmet, but I lack the knowledge to say that for certain.

My rule for BW FJ helmets is that unless there's markings shown that it is BW and not 3rd Reich, I'm not going to touch it. As far as I know nobody tries to fake BW helmets, so the risk is fairly low if there are BW markings shown in the auction.

The EXCELLENT condition BW Splittertarn jacket sold for a little less than I expected. I thought it could go as high as EUR 400 as people go crazy for the ones with very little signs of use. They are extremely rare to find on eBay or anywhere else.
