Thanks for the close ups. I agree that the buttons are the buttons found on BW shirts. Which makes sense as they would be easy to get in large quantities. The buttons from the 1950s hats do not have a raised edge.
Looks like standard cloth to me, both texture and printing. I'd have to dig one out to be 100% sure of the cloth, though. I doubt anybody would repro this cloth just for hats.
The black color is actually made from two separate screens. One is 100% black, the other is about 50% diffused. The two are designed to fit together so as to give the illusion of a single black shape. The purpose is to give less definition to the pattern, which is an important characteristic for camouflage to work better.
This technique was used on 1955 Leibermuster, 1955 Amöbentarn, 1956 Splittertarn, and 1957 "Broad" Splittertarn. The latter two just for the rain strokes. I can't think of anything else that used this technique. Which is saying something because I probably have 800+ camouflage patterns in my collection I suspect it was too expensive to become widely popular.
Prices for these, and the BGS, Zeltbahns are all over the place. Usually I find them selling for way under $100, but occasionally I see them go up higher.
