    Bundeswehr:Bergmuetze.Amöbentarnung mit Abzeichen

    A 'new kid' in town:-

Before everyone here jumps at me, no, I don't believe these were ever issued.

Expensive at 35 Euro, for what it is.

    The view inside:-

    It appears well-made.

There's been a lot of these made over the years. Lately there's a couple of dealers hawking them on German eBay. They are very nicely put together.

The bevo badges can be hand on rolls of 500 without much difficulty. I'm surprised about the buttons, though. Either someone found a big stash of originals or a source for something close enough.

        Look like Field Shirt Buttons.

I posted this and the other image as a precaution.

I suspect, in due course, some unsuspecting collector will buy these and post them here for comment/approval/praise.

          Nice, but not 'real'.

          Caveat emptor.

            uscob,

Good guess. They are pretty similar to the original types used on the hats. IIRC the hat type has a much thicker rim than the shirt type. But they are about the right size and color.

            Nachrichten,

No doubt. Generally speaking anything that came in a Zeltbahn form and is being sold in M43 style hat is probably faked. There are exceptions, of course.

They are faked fantasy items. I am knowing at least one German dealer who bought 60 tent sections in good quality and cut them for field caps.

also they are doing helm covers etc. Seems to be a good business.

Maybe the same I know. I also know the Manufacturer of them. After I throwed away 400 Moth damaged Swiss and Swedish coats he came and cried around why i didn't offered them to him. I asked, but back then, nobody wanted them and I needed the Space.

I wish they wouldn't do this. We are now sixty (reasonably rare) tent sections less. If they were 'shot', then a few helmet covers would not go astray. But making something which is just .................... bogus.

It was bad enough turning BGS gear into faux WW2 items. This one is just not logical.

                    Oh well, collector's lament complete.

The problem is that only a few collectors are interested in shelter quarters/halves. The BW made 10s of thousands of these, so who is to buy them all? Nobody. So they turn them into things which people will buy... hats. There's a long list of things like this. Trousers made into shorts being the most common I've seen. BGS jackets had the arms torn off and they sold them as "vests".

Fortunately there seems to be no shortage of these shelter halves. In fact, I've seen more of them for sale lately than ever before. The BW must have found a bunch of them.

I've seen them too. I've also seen the prices they seem to command ( 120+ Euro for the amoebatarn shelter halves).

Try getting a BGS shelter half/quarter (either the early splinter or later sumpftarn). I've been outbid countless times at heights (of price) that were giving me a nose-bleed.

Oh well, I guess they sell better as 'fashion accessories' ....................

                            And the inside:-

As I look at the fabric, I now believe that these may be new made, ie. that the fabric has been printed by the manufacturer and that these never were shelter halves.

Also, if you look closely at the weave, it appears to be quite light and not waterproofed.

Another example. Again, note the fabric weave and the quality of the print (blurred and streaked in places):-
