Do you know if the arty peices are going to remain in a static position?

    Thanks for the additional photos.

        Thanks for the info...

If you get any photos of it firing I would be interested in it even if you end up sending it to my e-mail.

            Copy that

Their job is sadly absolutely underrated here in Germany

              Phil - Excellent pictures! Thanks!

They say that the field artillery branch lends dignity to what otherwise would be a vulgar brawl...

I notice almost everyone pictured is wearing their pants over their boots. A lot even seem to be wearing civilian boots? Or am I mistaken? I would think tucking ones pants in would be preferable for keeping debris out and the keeping the pants from getting wrecked. I suppose there are no longer regulations for this and it is just a comfort preference thing?

They are wearing the issued "Wüstenstiefel" - which are made by HAIX.

It's very common to wear the "Hosenbeine lang" - untucked - when you are in the field.
Anyhow, there must have been a new regulation
During my last dril I saw several various SNCO with untucked pants in the barracks - bricks were shat.

                      - Some very rare combat footage of the Bundeswehr.

Interesting to see a soldier in a exposed position to re-load a weapon.

                        Thanks for the additional photos.

Is this helmet legit? The modification looks rather crude to me for a factory job:

Does the BW allow ad hoc equipment modification in the field under certain circumstances (such as when deployed in Afghanistan)?

That's a messed up paratrooper helmet (Gefechtshelm springende Truppenteile).
                            Keep away from it.

If you want to read the offical specifications for this helmet you can check out page from the BWB (Bundesamt für Wehrbeschaffung).
                            http://daten.bwb.org/AG-Bund/TL/Daten/84700008.pdf

Unfortunately it's only in German but it contents tons of informations.

Anyhow, what other modifications do you mean?

                            Cheers,

                              Gene T,

It looks as though someone has produced a home made version of a T 2001 helmet. They are pictured in this thread and in the thread I have listed below. The T 2001 is on limited issue in the BW but appears to have been bought by some troopers and worn in Afghanistan. If you troll through this thread you will see some non issue items worn in the field. As with most armies, the BW guys in combat are allowed some slack.

                              Regards,

                              Gordon

That's what I thought, Gordon and Philipp. Thanks for the links!

What gave me pause was the fact that someone was willing to ruin a perfectly good Springerhelm, which is quite sought after in its own right, just to create an abomination like this that no collector dared to touch at any price. What could he have been thinking??

This was a case where I thought that something was so obviously wrong that it may actually have a chance to be "right" due to some factor that was unknown to me.

I guess no such factor exists.
