Compound raid - probably Chahar Dara District - with Belgian troops.

Thanks for the additional photos from Kunduz Province (RC-N).
Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did. Quote - Sophie Scholl - White Rose resistance group

Phil - These are absolutely the best Bundeswehr in Afghanistan photos on the web.

Thanks for posting! There's so much to see and absorb; I don't know where to begin.

                  Thanks again,

It is something amusing to see the MG3 (a updated version of the former MG42) still on duty.
                    I love the pictures!

                          Phil,

It is interesting to see that, in some of the pictures, the BW soldiers have beards and mustaches while others are clean shaven. I thought that clean shaven faces were required in the BW? This was a comment made by a BW soldier on another web site.

                          Regards,

                          Gordon

Gordon - From what I understood, if you had a beard when you joined the Bundeswehr you could keep it. You could not however, grow one in if you didn't have it in the first place.

I'm sure there have been occasions too when the tactical situation didn't allow time for shaving and personal hygiene. The great shortage of potable water may also have an influence.

The disadvantage of wearing a beard in military service is the inability to quickly don and seal a protective mask. Scuba divers with beards face this same challenge in that their masks constantly leak. Lining the mask with vaseline sometimes helps, but over time, vaseline will start to break down the rubber content of the mask.

Can a Bundeswehr vet out there verify the Bundeswehr policy on beards?

                            Thanks - TJ

                              In German without a problem!

You could wear a beard. The beard must be in good condition (not 20cm)

It is not allowed, to let grow the beard in service. It must be before the service or in the time on holiday/vacation.
