"Amoeba" Print Helmet Cover

Does anyone know when the Heer put this drawstring helmet cover to use? The first photo I've ever seen dates to 1978.

I've been looking everywhere for such a cover for one of my M60 helmets, does anyone know of a source for obtaining one?

As far as I know the only "official" specialized cover before this date was the camo net. All other covers where custom made from the tent fabric or just "missused" hoods from the splinter camo jackets / carrying pouches for the tent (wich was also intended to be used as hood)

To my Knowledge. the Amoeba Cover was used only by Paras with the (For sure) Para Helmet. All other, like Ground forces etc. used the Net.
Somewhere I must have some 3 or 4 of these Covers, but where. Some Day I'll find them.
The Pic is one of my rows in the new Storage. front right is the Canadian Stuff in original Boxes.

That's easy in about 40 % of the Storage.
1 Pile is only for BW Braces 15 Boxes of 90 ea. 1 is for BW Rubber boots 20 boxes of 6 Pr. ea. In the Front you'll see the Canadian stuff. 25 Boxes of RCAF Trousers (20 ea.) 500 BD Jackets, 200 BD Trousers 20 Boxes of DDR NBC Ponchos. 50 ea. Box and so on. 1 Row with 250 Boxes is for mixed Uniforms, 2 Rows with about 800 boxes is for Equipment and so on. So no lazy times when I'm there.

Wait scratch that question........looks like they've got a lot of scrim and leaves stuffed under the wire netting.

Team - I found this photo in Battlefield by David Miller.

It depicts three dismounted panzergrenadiers manning an MG3 during NATO Exercise "TARTAN VANDAL".

Of interest to me was the Mitchell Pattern camoflauge cover worn by the greni on the far left (probably "acquired" from a U.S. or Canadian G.I.) and the Amoebatarn pattern worn by the gunner.

This photo also provides a good look at the PLT/CO radio in action (SEM 70?). Note too, how the gunner has written his name in white paint on a strip of OD tape and fixed it to the rear of his ABC mask pouch. The spare barrel carrier is in evidence as well.

Judging from the looks of the troops, this must of been one hell of an exercise. Most of the panzergrenadiers I served with were not keen on dismounting from their Marders (could you blame them?). These guys however, look like they've been rolling around in the mud for a good long while. I bet the beer tasted good when they got back to the casern.

Interesting pic TJ! I wonder how they fixed the US helmet covers since they were designed for a 2 piece helmet, not the BW's single piece type. I've seen Austrians wearing US Woodland covers, but they also have a 2 piece helmet.

I don't know when TARTAN VANDAL was held, but by the looks of the uniforms I'd say mid 1986-1988 or so. Look at the Grenadier on the left for a nice, clean look at the rear of the lightweight Y-Straps.
