    Tragetasche Z. u. V. MG1

    Gentlemen,

I have added a new piece to my field gear collection. It is a tool and spare parks kit for the MG1. At least I think it would contain all of those things. The WWII MG42 pouches did. I have looked avery where I can think of to find a picture and a list of what goes in this leather pouch but I have not been successful. Can someone help me here?

Here are some pictures of the pouch.

    Regards,

    Gordon

A posed picture Of an MG3 barrel change. The picture comes from "GERMAN MACHINEGUNS" by Musgrave and Oliver. A pouch like the one in my collection appear at the bottom of the picture.

            Towarish,

Thanks for the list of items. That seems like a big pouch for two items. Does the gunner carry a separate pouch for spare springs, bolt, parts, hot barrel mitt, etc. today?

            Regards,

            Gordon

The second man of the MG-team the so called "MG II" carries the spare barrel and the pouch with with the Wechselverschluss + ammo. You dont carry spare springs etc. with you when you have a drill.
There are no hot barrel mittens anymore, its the cotton cloth I've already told you.
Well, its more likly a termo cotton cloth.

                Towarish,

Thanks for the explanation. Surprised to hear that they don't carry any spare parts anymore. I've used an MG 1 with a friend and I can say for sure that parts do break when you use the gun.
So the cloth you mentioned is a "termo" one. I never noticed until today that the guy changing the barrel in the picture I posted is using his bare hand to change the barrel. He would only do that once!

                Regards,

                Gordon

                  Right that!
Maybe the photo was staged, even though there are cartridges around the MG.
Anyway, have you spotted the cloth next to the pouch?

                  Cheers,
                  Phil

                    Phil,

Yes the photo appears to have been staged. Thanks for pointing out the cloth in the photo. I wasn't really sure what it was. Helps to have at least an idea of what it looks like.

                    Regards,

                    Gordon

I've missed to more two more things that the pouch should contain.

                      - Mündungskappe (muzzle cap) made out of plastic
                      - Kombinationswerkzeug (mulit-tool) for removal of stuck cartridges

Anyhow, most of the time there is just the Wechselverschluss and the cloth present.

                      Phil

                        Gentlemen,
Here is a picture of the pouches contents, from ZvD 3/14, that Phil sent to me yesterday.

                        Regards,

                        Gordon

Gentlemen, need info about MG-team equipment in late 80`s. There are several pictures in ZdV 3/14, where the gunner armed Walther P1 and MG3, carries leather pouch with accesories; the second man armed G3A3 and carries spare barrel and ammo box/C-mag. But in photos from army I most times can`t see Walther P1 holster on a gunner. And several times saw gunner with MG3 and G3A4. May be somebody know army regulations about it?

                            Hi!

I only can talk for my engineer company and the logistical units I served. In these units the MG gunner never had a P1 as a sidearm in the V-Stan (the war TO&E).

I don´t know what was planned at the Fallschirmjäger or Panzergrenadiere.

In the BW there are two TO&E, one for peace time and traning and one for war service. But these TO&E were changed every few months. so it is hard to say "no" or "Yes". Maybe there were a time period with P1 carrying MG gunner.

                            Bye
                            Frank
