    Not allowed. Would have liked to see a former NVA pilot taken over by the Bundeswehr with Luftwaffe and LSK/LV pilot wing ... but former NVA badges/medals are not permitted to wear on Bundeswehr uniforms.

They were moved to Holloman AFB in 1992 and replaced by F-4Fs in the following time (one of this F-4Es now stands as a gate guard in front of our Eurofighter training squadron 2./JG 73 "S" at Laage AB, painted in standard F-4F camouflage).

        2004 the German Phantom training in the USA ended. Every new pilot scheduled to fly the Phantom (it is expected to stay in Luftwaffe service until 2012) now undergoes conversion training at JG 71 "Richthofen" at Wittmund AB.

        Thanks for your input. There seems to be a lot of conflicting data out there then about the the BW Luftwaffe bought in the way of the Phantom. I'll rely on your data from now on.
        So pilots and Navigators in the F4 will not longer qualify for the USAF Wings from the beginng of training in Germany only. Interesting to know. I'll have to print this all out or it will get lost in the foruma dn I'll never find it again.

          Oh, no, that is not correct. They got their German/USAF pilot wings after finishing the jet pilot training in Sheppard AFB/Texas and the WSOs got their German WSO/USN NFO wing after finishing the school at NAS Penacola.

          The type conversion training on the F-4 has nothing to do with qualifyig for the wings.
