Seems like a very nice "church find"
Excuse my ignorance but what period exactly?

I'm in love with the mitre -
Check out page 7 of Kipling & King for a full page photo of an officer's grenadier cap of the 65th Foot circa 1760, & page 8 for an excerpt from the Royal Warrant, describing it.

Got the grenade missing from the tip of the mitre, appears cruder bullion than the one shown in K&K.
            I want this.

Dont any of you think these listings may be suspect?

I`m not too sure about the sellers comments.

                Steve.

Hi Guys, like Steve I would be cautious of something rare like these turning up out of the blue, but stranger things have happened on E bay before? If I were the winning bidder I would arrange to pick up the items in person and pay for them then.

                  Cheers, Ade.

                    Holy S---!

If they are authentic, both hats are of incredible value. Without going deeply into the reference library, the shako is for the 27th (Inniskilling)'s. Popularly called the Waterloo shako, this style saw some service in the Peninsula (late). The 27th may have had it for both campaigns. The badge, being bi-metal, may have been for an officer. Cords and tassels and plume are missing, which may be a vote in its favor. The mitre is of a style from the Seven Year's War. My information shows the 65th Foot to have been raised from the 2nd Bn. of the 12th in 1758. Its facings were white, which goes with this example. There is an example of the 65th's mitre in C.C.P. Lawson's Vol. II (P.30). It is a line drawing and shows some slight differences. This may be explained by the variations in hand embroidery though.

                      Just what I was thinking.
I am seriously interested in these, but I'm not an e-bay fan & I'd want to meet matey vendor & check the goods / hand over cash.
He's got about 8 e-bay sales logged up going back to December last year, & his write up's on these items is unbelievably naive - absolute drivel.
Such unworldly souls do exist, but they're in a minority, so his approach to these sales is not at all reassuring. He does'nt vouch for these items in any sense - he presents his case as not even knowing what they are, let alone whether they're genuine.
He could make a lot of profit on dodgy goods or transaction now, for the sake of biding his time on e-bay for 4 months.
Of course, I'm not implying that the vendor is dishonest, he's merely an unknown quantity, but then I'm loathe to throw a lot of money at an unknown quantity.
Kipling & King Volume 1 shows a full page photo of the front of the 65th Foot's offficer's grenadier cap (unfortunately not a colour photo), the stitching is certainly not identical to that of the cap offered for sale, which has cruder stitching, but that does'nt necessarily mean a lot.
The Belgic shako is certainly reproduced nowadays for re-enactors & the like, I don't know about the mitre caps, easy enough to get them run up I suppose, especially with the willingness of Pakistani firms to rattle off anything in bullion etc.
I hope they're genuine, I'd love to get them if they are, but I don't want to play e-bay Russian roulette for that kind of money.
As a footnote, if I was going to spend a lot of money on items of headgear, these are the sort of things I'd spend it on - not a German tin lid with a splash of camo paint or SS / police decals or a bullet hole.
