Can you see any markings on the underside of the shell, often near the lugs but not always? That would show if it is a MKII or MKI*.
MKI liners were fitted to both types before the MKII liner was introduced.

...coming to this one a bit late...sorry. But I agree with Sherlock Bond. I love these paint-stacked ones...'started as one thing and then transition through other uses (and colours). I see too many with a perfectly rectangular stripped bare metal section revealing the shell stamps.....why do people do that?....rest in the assurance that it's a Brit lid, made during (or possibly pre) war and that the steel came from a specifically numbered batch...I suspect you ain't gonna find out any more than that :-)
