It's clearly a personal devotional item. I can't find a 'Saint Gerarius' but there was a 'St Gerard Majella', patron of expectant mothers. This was presumably carried by a person for whom this saint has significance. Perhaps a soldier, though if this represnets Majella that seems unlikely, or a pilgrim or just a very devout Catholic. Very interesting item. -
