    It's clearly a personal devotional item. I can't find a 'Saint Gerarius' but there was a 'St Gerard Majella', patron of expectant mothers. This was presumably carried by a person for whom this saint has significance. Perhaps a soldier, though if this represnets Majella that seems unlikely, or a pilgrim or just a very devout Catholic. Very interesting item.

      IT WAS MY GRANDADS. HE WAS IN FRANCE WW1 KOYLI. BUT IT HAS MADE IN GERMANY ON THE OTHER SIDE THEN AGAIN THERE WERE NO NASTY NAZI THEN
