75th Anniversary of the DIEPPE RAID, Exhibits & Events

    Hi To All,

Considered by the Canadians, Co-organizers with the City of Dieppe of the 75th anniversary celebrations of the Dieppe Raid, as more important than the next 80th anniversary of 2022 because it will be likely the last time that Canadian veterans will be able to travel to Dieppe (Less than 5 are expected from Canada this year when they were still more than 30 in 2012) the commemoration of the Operation Jubilee will be particularly important this year with a significant official international representation expected (Canadians, British, Americans, French, Belgians, Polish etc...)

By my side, I have already worked for the event with an active participation in the exhibition of the War Heritage Institute, at the Royal Museum of the Army and Military History of Brussels, "Tribute to a Raid" just inaugurated on last June 23rd in the presence of the Belgian Minister of Defense and the Deputy Mayor of Dieppe, for which I published a few days ago the following post:

    Otherwise, as every year since 2010, the association that I 'm vice-president "Je Me Souviens", will organize in Dieppe center its big annual exhibition dedicated to the Raid on Dieppe but complitely redesigned with many new additions and simply called this year;
    "19 Août 1942...Je Me Souviens" / 19th of Augsut 1942...I Remember"
The poster of the Dieppe Exhibition

    Presentation text of the exhibition
"Historical exhibition commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Operation "Jubilee" by a detailed & visual evocation of the Anglo-Canadian raid on the Dieppe beaches the 19th of august 1942. Designed as an ephemeral museum and displayed with a neat scenography featuring dioramas of faithful period representations, made with mannequins striking of truth presenting various protagonists of the event,It's also multiple and scarce relics, Vets items & groupings, models, documents, photographs and period films that will be presented for what is probably today the most important collection dedicated to this event."
From 10th of august to 15th of September, open from 10.00AM to 10.00PM, free admission of course!"

Last edition composed pictures to give an idea of the look of the exhibit

But also and only displayed this year, a second exhibition will be held at Sainte Marguerite sur Mer, in support of the "Orange Beach" commemoration, which will be special this year with the official laying of a commemorative plaque in memory of Captain Patrick Porteous, Officer of the N ° 4 Commando, for these acts of bravery on August 19, 1942 and the expected presence of the venerable "British Commando veteran Association", and maybe a ship of the Royal Navy cruising in front of Orange beach ... all this on 20 August at Sainte Marguerite su Mer village (20 km from Dieppe)
The Poster of the Sainte Marguerite sur Mer exhibition

    Presentation text of the exhibition
"Organized by the association "Je Me Souviens" in partnership with the municipality of Ste Marguerite sur Mer, the Exhibition" ORANGE BEACH "will be dedicated the "CAULDRON" operation, the only victorious action of the Dieppe raid of August 19 1942, by the British "N ° 4 Commando" commanded by the famous Lord LOVAT, who captured and the destroyed the German Heavy coastal battery, The 813 "Hess" battery located at Vasterival between Ste Marguerite sur Mer and Varengeville.
Designed as an ephemeral museum and supported by neat staging in the spirit of the exhibitions of the association, this one will present, among others realistic mannequins representing various protagonists of the event, rare relics, documents, photos and film from the period."

From 12 to 22 August 2017, 10.00AM to 06.00PM "Salle du point de rencontre" of Sainte Marguerite sur Mer."

    ...We are waiting for you!
    Best to All

Wish I could be there. Really excellent, though I would have used 'commemoration' instead of 'celebration'. But then, I'm an English teacher.

Mes excuses pour mon commentaire grossier. I simply didn't consider that English was not you mother tongue and I am ashamed. If I can order a beer and find the toilet en francais I think I'm doing well, despite having lived in an officially biligual country - Canada - my whole life.

Thank you for remembering our men and what they did at Dieppe. Vive la France libre.

                    Salut Roberto !

Yes, same email...& I well received your message by
...your hotel is located on the seaside, at 50 meters from the Canadian square which is one of the main place of the commemorations, especially the 19th...and you will be at around 500 meters from my home (on the top of the cliff behind the middle age castle) and at less than 800m from the harbour and the place of the exhibition so you will be close to all !(Dieppe is a small town...)

                    See you soon !
                    Best

                      Hi Martin,

That's great!...I think that the 19th morning ferry from New Haven will be quite full!
2 days is enough especially the 19th & 20th which are the days of official Canadian & British commemorations although many other ancillary events as exhibit, reconstitutions, parades and even gigs & "beach choreography" (designed by a Canadian street choreograph from Quebec) will take place over a fortnight.

                      So, see you soon!

                        Bonjour Peter,

Your comment had nothing of "grossier" (coarse) and I took it very well...you will be always welcomed to correct my words if there are not the right ones (we learn every days!)

I'm looking at being in Dieppe over that period, can someone give me a link to the events/services being held? It would be much appreciated.
