17th Badge - Ncos Badge
The one on the right is in my opinion a modern replica of the old 17th Lancers NCOs Arm badge that was worn over the rank chevrons. It is a different pattern to the cap badge being of slightly different design and size with lugs for fitting to the sleeve. I do not know whether they stopped wearing them pre WW2 or after the amalgamation with the 21st lancers in 1921. There may be a cavalry historian out there. It has been widely copied but I have seen a Trooper in the QRL wearing one in lieu of the proper pattern cap badge!
