    3rd pattern F/S

I recently acquired this third pattern Fairbairn Sykes dagger and would like to know whether it is WW2 issue or not. And also a relative value for it in its present condition if WW2 period. Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is an original WW2 knife. The England stamps indicate that it was imported into the US after the war. It is a late war 3rd pattern knife with a machine ground blade which is the most common and least valuable of Fairbairn Sykes knives. It appears that the blade has been sharpened which has a negative impact on it's value as well. I'll let someone else comment on value.

If you search the ended auctions on Ebay you will get a decent impression of value. Personally, I believe it is not the sharpened blade or broken elastic strap that has the biggest impact on value, but the England stamp as this was always applied after the war.

This depends on the collector... some don't like the England stamp because they feel the knife was altered post war and degrades the value while other collectors (myself included) feel the England stamp is another indicator of originality and is a legitimate part of the history of these knives. A sharpened blade however is a negative point for collectors of all edged weapons from pocket knives right up to swords.

for me it has almost no value if the knife is supplied with the stamp England but heee i'm living in Europe not in the VS so maybe this make the different

as has been said an original pre45 f-s exported after the war to pay off lend leese
i find it strange that the us gained the most out of ww2 and england lost the most but we had to pay the us
                    anyway its worth £80 $130

I wish that was the case here so that I could build my collection for much less money. I don't collect with value as the priority, I collect because I love the history and want to have a piece of history in my hands.

                        Well said
I agree that the England stamp may lower the value slightly, this is
still a collectible knife and a nice little piece of history.
