        Hello Jim,

The LRDG grouping was on www.germanmilitaria.com. It sold straight away so I didn't even get a chance to buy it and as soon as I saw the cap badge I thought

What do you reckon about the first one I posted?

The one you posted above looks the same as the first one you posted but my guess is that the outer 2nd ring has been ground off?

Thanks for that Chris, I'll check it out in a bit

        Cheers, from Jack.

          Jack,

The thing that makes me very suspicious of the gold badge is the body of the scorpion. If you look at it carefully it appears to be made from the form of the fakes that are shown. I don't know how the rest of it was made to look so different though, but the bodies are the same and wrong to me.

            Hello Jack , I.M.O !!
sorry ..... but i really dont like this one // i am not saying it is wrong only it fits the description of a batch made up by a dealer and being slowly eased on to the market ,the last one i saw was at Leeds fixed on to an over seas service helmet , as long as you got it private ,from an estate sale you may be in with a shout ,regards ,Michael ,

p.s if you have heard the story about the wartime metal commando badges made up from `naffi spoons ` the same dealer is making these as well ................... but on the plus side the naffi spoons he is using are genuine !! ,Michael.

                Hello everybody,

Yesterday something strange happend to me. I was on holiday in London and, as usual, I paid a visit to the Imperial War Museum, which had some displays about the LRDG and I started looking and started taking pictures.

In the day that followed I went to a fleamarket in the neighbourhood of where I was staying and came to a stall with lotts of old junk on it (as is quite common in a fleamarket). When I started searching in an old box, this is what I found. It's crazy but it was an LRDG capbadge. I don't think it is an original but I couldn't leave it there for just 2 pounds.

Here are the pictures I took in the IWM and pictures of the badge I found.
Also I've got a picture of a LRDG badge that is in the Airborne Museum at Oosterbeek, the Netherlands. (excuse me if the photo's are a bit small but I forgot to put more focus on the camera or something, those things are just to complicated sometimes)

Maybe it will help you in your quest to find an original one?

                Best Regards,

                Willem.

P.S. excuse me if I made any mistakes in my English.

The ones at the IWM, London.

The one displayed at Hartenstein, Oosterbeek.

The one I found at the fleamarket.

(I also found a glider qualification badge at the market but I will post that one in a different thread)

Hi Willem, thanks for the pics. The one that you picked up is sadly a modern copy but at £2 it is an OK price.

                  Cheers, Ade.

                    Hello Adrian,

I thought so. The main reason I posted the pictures is to put some more pictures together, I hope they are of use.
                    Thanks for your help

                    Willem.

To all the non believers (The 1st Pattern)

Now you can see it with your own eyes -
Trooper Alf Saunders (centre) displays his LRP badge on his Lemonsqueezer hat. The photo was taken in early 1941 at a cairo studio after he had just returned from a long desert trip, hence the lower half of his face is pale after his beard was removed. His battledress displays the early type New Zealand distinguishing patches and the brass NZ Mounted Rifles shoulder titles (NZ Divisional Cavalry) unoffocially worn on his shoulder strap. The picture was taken with two olld friends, Private Ashley Garnet (left) and private Bill Gallagher.

Heres an old thread which may be helpful as to the 1st types and 2nd pattern beginnings of the LRDG badge, as well as pictures my own Original LRDG badge.
