Let's wait and see what cunning response I will get:
Sir, I've had a rough day today but your item description put a big smile right onto my face. Thanks for a great laugh and best of luck passing this on as an original. Regards, Luc
The seller tried to trade this with me against a red beret
I see a few probs that I'm sure Des will confirm. Post war pattern wings, repro France titles, unusual beret (to say the least)! But hey if the bidders are happy with it, I'm glad for them quite seriously.
The close up of the cap badge is annoyingly bad but from what I can make out, I don't think its right. From my poor understanding of French it seems someone with better eyesight than me suggested in the Q&A that the badge was an English fake sold in the 1990s. I'm not sure what the seller said in reply (something like how can you know from my one excellent photo that this was a circa 1990 copy? This is a genuine barn found beret.). Hilarious, that and the offers of up to 400 euro to end it early.
If you thought 400 euros was hilarious, just look at the final sales price!
The sellers reply translates roughly to the trodden barn find indeed and there's moth, dirt and unless you can provide a picture of a 1990 badge I assume it is not modern.
my originals must be worth at least twice that right?
Keep on dreaming Des!
There just seem to be an awful lot of French collectors with more money than knowledge. The number of fakes that fetch a huge sales price on ebay.fr is enormous.
Your right Des, some things are priceless. Especialy when there from vets. I only got a set of titles, what was a gift from a vet. Only from respect i will never sell them.
