Would you wear one? Even soldiers have a sense of style and that is just one uuugglyy hat! I would have thought they'd be rare because if they'd ever been issued widely they'd have been 'lost' in huge numbers, like other unpopular uniform items.
In 1940-45 I could see me wearing it if I were a Canadian Veteran's Guard watching over POWs in Timmins, Ontario - 200 miles north of anywhere and real brass monkey country! otherwise, I'd sooner freeze! Yuch!

Since you mentioned the officers version, I have one of those also. Named to an officer at HQ Atlantic Command, which I thought was pretty cool. Follow the link to the pics from a old thread here.
