    No2 Commando

    Hi Guys,

Brit stuff not my area so have a few questions if I may.

Have a group of items from a guy who enlisted in Dec 1940 and went into 2 Commando, early on. Collection consists of:

2 x Red printed "No2 Commando" flashes (used)

2 x Red printed "Commando" flashes (unused)

2 x White emroidered on blue "Commando" flashes (used)

    3 x Corporal stripes (Used)

1 x Corporal stripes on a green brassard with string at the back (used)

1 x small red dagger on blue triangle shaped patch (used)

    1 x Pay book

1 x Soldiers book (certified as an official copy)

1 x medal ribbon bar (War Medal, 39-45 Star, Africa Star, Italy Star)

Guy was of Norwegian decent living in London. Set also contains 3 x Blazer badges and a commemmorative copy of a F&S "Army Commandos" knife.

Would like to know if the set is worth anything. Cant post pics for a few days, but will do soon.

    Thanks in advance.

    yep!
Any well documented and authentic 'Commando' group always sells at a premium.

That about all I can say without seeing it.

I dont think I can beat Robb's generous offer, but I`ll have a go!

As your clearly are not interested in the British stuff I`ll trade you one EK for thew whole lot? Is it a deal?

Before you rush out and spend your cash I would get some pics first an check here. Treat this sort of group the same way you would a RK group.
But of course you know that already.

OF course you get it for a song from a dealer great but private sale I would be a little more generaous.

Aye, 9 out of the 10 items you have listed could have been married up to the Paybook.

                  Steve.

Hi G, sounds an interesting little group.

Being an experienced collector in the German field you (love your Police ID's btw) you will realise that what Steve says rings true, in particular if the scource was not direct from the Vet.

I look forwards to seeing them.

                    Cheers, Ade.

                      No 2 Commando

                      Hi All,

Have the group in my hands now. There is actually only 1 x Red printed "commando" flash on blue, not 2 as first thought. There are also 2 loose ribbons, and an unknown piece of insignia that looks like some kind of foreign navy rank stripe or something similar, in gold and pink (faded red?). Will post pics this afternoon.

                        Hi all,

Here it is. The vet died a couple of years ago and his wife stripped the badges off his "tatty old uniform". Wife passed away recently with no immediate family.

Ive got no problems with the insignia being genuine but that is not where the value resides in this lot.

Let us now see the list of promotions and units posted in the book. Thats the difference between a dud and pure quality.

                              What happened to the knife?

There are also a fair few items missing from this lot, for example the certificate each commando was presented with at the end of the war. Thats probably worth as much as any single item your showing.
