    Unknown Badge

    Hello Everybody,

Today I bought a small lot of British insignia, in the lot was a little badge with dark-maroon backing and it seems to picture three lions standing on a stone or something. Could somebody help me identify this badge?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Best Regards,

    Willem.

I would agree with Nico, but I have no idea exactly what it is.

      Cheers, Ade.

They are known as the "Lions of Ashoka" (he was an early ruler of India) and form part of the official emblem of the Indian Armed Forces. Immediately after Independence (1947) the lions were used to replace the British Crown on many badges. These could be the rank badges of a senior warrant officer or part of a larger device. I'll try to find out more.

As I thought: on the red backing they represent part of the rank tabs of a Lt General or General; plain they are part of the rank insignia of Cols, Lt Cols, Rissaldar Majors and so on. See this site for a complete list:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_ra...ignia_of_India
